I'll be off up to Milton Keynes on Christmas Eve to spend some of the following day with my family before toddling home again. On a whim yesterday, I checked the parkrun 'Christmas Compendium', I checked it twice, and I saw that Linford Wood (MK) parkrun are having a Christmas Day run! How tempting 😄
Are any of you doing a Christmas Day parkrun? Any of you opting out of the seasonal shenanigans altogether (I wouldn't blame you!)?
Sometimes we don't feel like putting a whole post up but just want to share something small, so this is a great place for doing that during the week. Please join in the discussion! If you're new or a lurker this is a great place to say a little hi without the pressure of a full post.
Whatever you're doing this week, I hope you have fun, and enjoy your running!

ATTENTION ALL!
Please note that WE ARE NOW GIVING EVENTS THEIR OWN MONTHLY CALL OUT POST to make it easier for us to assemble the weekly pom pom posts, so please leave your event details there and not here!
None of mine are operating on Christmas Day but I will make one on 28th and I could manage two on NYD (depending where I am) - one at 9am another at 10.30 and there’s time to travel between them....
Hi Roseabi, I’m aiming to do Bognor Parkrun (it’s on the list!)🏃♂️🏃♀️ provided I’m recovered from a cough and cold🤧😷which I’ve had since last week🤞It’ll be my first outing in 10 days so I’m not expecting any records. Then it’s back to mum’s for family Christmas🎄🎁
No park run Xmas day, but a continuation of my training plan means a short one Xmas eve, allowing for a two day break over Xmas. Merry Christmas all 🎅🎅🎅
No Hastings parkrun on Christmas Day so pianojunior and I are hoping to do Eastbourne. Unfortunately there's a high chance it won't go ahead as they had to cancel on Saturday due to severe flooding to parts of all the available routes - over 2 feet deep in places 😲
We could do Uckfield as I'm due to play for a church service very close by but it's an absolute mudfest at the mo (only 14 people managed sub30 on Saturday!) and as I won't be able to shower or change I can't risk falling over 🤣
Going to stay at the Grand Hotel in Brighton at the weekend with my boyfriend so may try out a parkrun there - although I may opt to eat a massive breakfast instead!
We've got parkrun New Year's Day in Hastings but Brighton kickoff at 1230 so I think travel arrangements will mean we'll have to give that a miss this year.
Eastbourne parkrun is definitely on (they've pumped the water and have another alternate course if it comes back) and the Grand serve breakfast until 1030 so if I do Hove Prom I'm confident I can make it back in time to stuff my face 🤣
I thought about East Brighton as it looks a more interesting course but it is much further away so I'm hoping to jog to Hove as a warm up then get back in time for breakfast 😁
Hi Roseabi, me and UpTheStanley will be running in Southsea on Christmas Day before visiting Rellies, and then volunteering on the 28th. UTS tells me that it will be perfect conditions for a PB but after lots of food and drink lately my body won’t be at Its best . I love seeing all the runners turn out for it though and fancy dress will be worn. 🎅🏻🤶
May be on for a double Park Run on New Years Day, but I think Christmas Day will be out of bounds! Just finished a hilly 5k in about an even 7/km with our (mid thirties)youngest. First run ever with family 😊
That's nice BC, running with one of your kids. I went for a holiday run with my sis a couple of months ago and really enjoyed it. No chance of my son (21) coming out with me, that would not be cool 😉
I'm thinking New Years day has got to be a run day 👍
He came on a hill run which is not his natural territory. He said that he had really enjoyed it.. don’t think that he was just being nice to the old man 😊
No Christmas Day running for me, and definitely no parkrun - family would wholly disapprove of it getting in the way of our Christmas Day routine 😍. I'll wait til Boxing day for the 5K which will be my first run in over a week, fingers crossed my foot is OK. It's forecast to rain so bound to be muddy!
Have a wonderful Christmas everyone, whatever you're planning 😘🎄
I am planning a Xmas Eve run in the morning, but no parkrun for me on Xmas day. I fully intend to be opening presents in my pyjamas on Xmas day at 9am, big kid that I am! Considering the New Year's Day parkrun though...if I can get up in time. Lots of other runs planned over the festive season though; it's lovely and I go stir crazy if I don't.
Wishing you all a peaceful, loving Christmas, running pals.
No parkrun for me on 25th (cooking!) or 28th (daughter's birthday). However very pleasant 5k this morning, continuing my post-hamstring recovery at 29.04 - so I think my next run will have to be some time on the 27th. Happy Christmas one and all!🎄
No Christmas Day parkrun anywhere near where we’re going but a Christmas Day runnette will definitely be on the cards as I don’t have to cook 👏👏👏👏 (thank you to my wonderful parents in law!!!!!)! Providing it’s dried out, we’ll be doing Bury St Edmunds on the 28th and a NYD double back home (see you at Leam Windoze ?).
In the meantime I’ll be doing my HM training 80 min run on Christmas Eve. I thought I’d have a go at a heart rate based run so it will probably be very, very slow 🤔
I can't remember 'proper' Xmas as nature of my work means l'd need to be elsewhere to provide entertainment for all that good folk. That also means running in the morning through quiet and deserted roads in my own time and peacefully while everyone else is nursing hangovers and sugar rush side effects. Priceless. Park run? Yes. On my own.
Hmm, not really back to Parkrun yet (only doing 4k runs at the moment and I'd like to get some more speed back before doing it). Besides, I'm not sure about running whilst my arm's in plaster.
Merry Christmas everyone (I'm looking forward to a much quieter year next year).
I can already feel the FOMO I must admit. I pre-decided not to do PR on Christmas Day, because my 2 most local ones aren’t running this year. I could make it to Severn Bridge. I love that one, but it’s not so much fun when it’s 💦 and 🌬, as it has been all week.
Sod’s law the forecast tomorrow is delightful. Still I can’t go as I jiggled my PRs around in order to run my 50th at my home course, Eastville, on the 28th. Much as it would be fun to run it on Christmas Day, I feel it should be at home. I could “forget” my barcode, but it’s not in my nature and I’d be cross with myself! 🤦♀️
So no running for me tomorrow (😩). I’ll do a long one on Boxing Day to run off the copious amounts of food I intend to pack back instead! 😅
Happy running this 🎄 and here’s to tons of fun in 2020! 🏃♀️🏃♂️
Thanks Dexy5 , yes the grandson will be a welcome distraction to not doing PR tomorrow. He already has more presents under the tree than the rest of us put together! 💙🎄
A very merry Christmas to you and UpTheStanley , and see you at a PR meetup somewhere in 2020! 😀
Merry Christmas roseabi - and to everyone else on here! Enjoy the festivities!🎉🎄😀
I will be out running this afternoon - my plans for Christmas Day include cooking, presents, bubbly and lots of yummy food, so no running tomorrow for me! 🙂x
I’ve not got any races planned, just a 10k today and maybe Thurs and then a long run on Saturday either solo or with the run group. I still have yet to do a Parkrun even though we have one close by now. 🙂 Happy Holidays everyone! Careful of the traffic this time of year. Stay safe.
Our club did a run uphill to a highly decorated fundraising Christmas bungalow last night! 😊always good this one ! And had a sparkly slog round ventnor in very gold top last Sunday! Race day in Sunday so just parkrun steady trot for me then heading into Red January challenge for some motivation! Xxx
I’m a bit late to this thread but I think I can just squeeze in under the 29th cut-off Decided to have 3 week break from running during Dec to give the legs a supercharged recovery period ready for 2020. Tried out my new niggle-free pins yesterday with a joggy 5k all decked-out in my new Xmas prezzie (running top) and carrying a bit of Xmas aftermath calorie baggage. Have not lost much fitness much to my surprise! New Year’s targets will be to knock 30 mins off my marathon PB and run a HM with my daughter (who’s just about to finish c25k and start b210k).
