Almost certainly me. Here goes:

I have lots of dangly strings with plastic fasteners on my belt that I am told are there for me to attach gels. How? I admit I am as impractical as can be, but I just can't work it out. Wisdom please people.

I thought the dangly strings were for triathlon race numbers. If there are some loops on the belt they’ll be for the gels. Sometime belt loops are hard to see as they’re sewn into the fabric. I’ve got some on my capris and I felt the gel loops them rather than saw them ☺️🤓

I’m no expert. Roseabi will know cos she is. She won’t be long 😃👍

No question is daft. You’re in the right place here for asking stuff Folks here always want to help 🙂👍

Correct! You make a couple of holes at the top of your race number, remove the plastic toggles from the elastic strings, thread the strings through the holes, then reattach the toggles to hold the number in place. It is a requirement in a triathlon to have your number on your back for the bike section, and on your front for the run, so with the tri belt it is easy to spin the number round from back to front. And you can also wear your number under your wetsuit, which saves more time!

Not sure why you have "lots of" them though, only two needed 😊😊😊

I am sitting here at work giggling away - that does explain why I found it so difficult. I promise I am a grown up with a proper life who manages to get from A to B (usually) despite the impression I am giving here... Thank you.

And Roseabi, I have 6 on my belt and no intention of ever needing a triathlon number!

It’s fun int it this running lark 😁. We can get fit, have a laugh and find out new stuff.

Have a look if you’ve got gel loops. You might need your specs on 🤓. I don’t do gels so I thread my run jacket through em

Lol!

I found some with three, which makes sense now I think about it - the number would be much more secure with three fastening points. Maybe yours is designed for holding two numbers!

You have all been very tolerant of my idiocy and more forgiving than I deserve. I was still giggling about mixing my gels and numbers options when I put my belt on this morning. Thank you.
