Disastrous Run ☹️

After nearly a week of no running due to feeling rough, I thought I’d try a little run this morning. And that’s exactly what it was. A VERY little run. I’ve been feeling as though I’m going down with something all week... hot one minute, cold the next, banging headache and eyes that hurt when I move them, and really weary and breathless. I finally took decongestants yesterday and woke this morning feeling clearer and the headache had gone so I ventured out.

5 minutes brisk warm up walk and then running ....for a whole 2 minutes before I couldn’t breathe and had to walk for a minute , tried again and managed another 90 seconds before I had to walk again for a good 3 minutes before I could breathe normally again. Managed another minute and then gave up and came home again. I was nearly in tears.

I feel fine in myself but just have a really tight chest. I’ve been using my inhalers but it isn’t making much difference. I’m not sure if I have had a virus or if my asthma is worse. Gonna make an appointment and see what doc says. ☹️

I WANT TO RUN!!! 😥😥

How horrible for you - might be worth getting your chest checked out? There seem to be a lot of nasty bugs around at the minute. Rest up and get yourself fully better - you will soon be back out there and feeling strong again.🙂

Ahhh, that sounds very frustrating. But it also sounds like you need to rest and be nice to yourself until you're properly better. You know the runs will wait for you (they have before!), they'll still be there. Ten out of ten for trying, but now be a bit more sensible til you're fighting fit again 😜. Take care xxx

That is a frustrating situation for sure. Good thing you have a doc appt lined up. Don’t need that to get any worse. Hope you are 100% very soon

Oh, no, poor you. I know how that feels, wanting to run but your body lets you down. This too shall pass. Let us know what the doctor says. It does sound as if you might have an infection, but, hey, I'm not a medical professional. Hugs x

Awww you're clearly not well. Look after yourself and you'll soon be back out there 🤞🏻👍🏻

Careful, careful, careful. You got out there and got some fresh air and you know when fresh air doesn't agree with a person, there's summat up.

I think you body was possibly telling you it isn’t feeling very well! So you need a little more TLC, possibly some antibiotics and a drs opinion. But take care, the running will wait a little longer xxx

Oh LL how disappointing. Definitely get yourself checked out though. You don’t want to compound a lingering infection or whatever it might be.

Are you able to get a fresh air fix by taking some nice walks at least? No point in running until you’re better. You’re fit enough to bounce right back when the time is right. Take care. ❤️

Definitely go and see the doc - as my doctor told me during my worst asthma - breathing is not an optional extra !

Might just be congestion if you've been feeling bad all week - *fingers crossed* that you get it sorted soon as

They do say, if it’s a head cold use your judgment depending on how you feel but if it’s a chest cold just don’t run. Frustrating though. It’s like when I have blood taken, I feel fine but I’ve learned that hard way not to run for a couple of days (they say 24 hours but I’ve discovered I need to leave it longer than that). Hopefully you won’t have to wait too much longer. The hardest part of the discipline of being a runner (at least I find it the hardest) is knowing when NOT to run 😢

The daft thing is I’ve not actually had a cold - just felt like I’m going to go down with something but not actually had anything. My son and daughter had streaming colds but I seemed to hold them at bay but feel as though I was GOING to be ill. Feel better today but I’m still going to give it a couple more days.

I think that’s wise. I always think that of a couple if our teachers are off with a cold then there are probably another half dozen who aren’t actually ill but are below par with a smaller dose. It could be your immune system fought off the virus but left you tired as a result (not that I’m qualified to say that, I just notice that when bugs are going round lots of people who don’t have the symptoms nevertheless feel run down).

Or it could be nothing to do with that. Could be some kind of stress response, or slight overtraining, or any one of a hundred things. But for whatever reason, your body told you it wasn’t up to running and you had the good sense to listen. Hope you’re up and about soon.
