Welcome to another new week - How's it all going? Tell us all about it!
NRR π Now my triathlon's done and done I'm enjoying a little relaxation time. Watching the Great British Bake Off 'tear and share' episode was a tonic, and it got me dreaming about a perfect, delicious Chelsea Bun πππ
What's your favourite bun?
Sometimes we don't feel like putting a whole post up but just want to share something small, so this is a great place for doing that during the week. Please join in the discussion!
If you're new or a lurker this is a great place to say a little hi without the pressure of a full post.
Happy running!

Hi Sqkr & Roseabi, just a quiet week in prospect for me this week, running-wise at least.π Just gently tapering in advance of the Bournemouth HM on 6 OctoberπββοΈπ
My favourite bun is probably an iced finger, or preferably two of them!π
Chelsea buns all the way for me too roseabi! π π. Our local baker makes them, and I canβt make the drive home without eating one at the wheel. I always unravel them meticulously! π€
Haha not posh Snuffy, but very pleasant. A small lap around the park, then 2 longer laps incorporating the marine lake and seafront. It was great and Iβll definitely be returning. π
I like Yum Yums. Which are possibly more of a cake. MnS do mini ones so I can feel less naughty!! And Iβve had a week off as Prague cobbles and Berlin streets held no appeal. So a good run tomorrow morning and then taper to the 6th...is the plan x
Just going out for a relaxed 4K with UpTheStanley in the sunshine before the rain comes in.
Mmm, I could probably demolish any bun put in front of me but cinnamon buns win it on our ski holidays. A bit like the Chelsea bun where you get that satisfaction of eating it while unwhirling it, if you know what I mean. π
Well done to you both Abi and Sqkr in getting thru your recent events.πππ
Hope the migraine improved Sqkr.π
Doing C25k third time repeat a little differently.I know it is an aerobic building programme but I am going to try and continually build my pace while progressing from the interval stages through to the continuous longer runs.
Atb with your plans.ππ₯πββοΈπββοΈβοΈβοΈππ
I volunteered at the lido on Sunday for the dog and human swim , mad dogs and English men galore. For which I was given a tray of unsold chocolate doughnuts.....I've eaten about 5 , and to be honest feel a bit off buns and cakes now...!
Enjoying the afterglow of the tri on Sunday, but itching to try out some new trail trainers I bought last week. I think I over did it, the drop is 4mm compared to the 12mm on my adrenalines. So i just did a slow 4k, but I have a niggle/pain in my hip now , so am waiting until that passes before I can run again
I ended up with mens Brook's cascadia , because they have a bit more support inside compared to the others I tried on. They look okay, time will tell how I get on with them.
They are highly rated. ππ» I tried the ladies Cascadia but I found the tongue too long, sitting in an uncomfortable place too high on my feet, otherwise they looked great.
I had a limited edition white Kit Kat Krispy Kreme doughnut yesterday. It was over priced of course and rather disappointing. I'll stick with a warm Cinnabon instead please.
Not a lot of running last week as I have been out and about. Wanted to be a Parkrun tourist at Builth Wells but couldn't quite make it all come together.
We donβt have buns as such here in Canada, but we do have butter tarts and I had a fantastic one yesterday π.
Iβve just been working through the long runs of the mara plan and have the longest one this coming week. Two weeks ago was 32. This coming week is 34 and then taper.
I used to love the Cinnabon here in the Eglinton subway station, but its long gone now. I think a single bun was ridiculously high in calories. But so tasty.
Hope you're feeling better now Sqkr and so very well done roseabi with the Tri event!!
I'm feeling much happier with my progress this month following the false alarm of dropping stuff on my foot. September's marathon is in the bag now, onwards and upwards!
Buns don't tend to fit into a plant based diet but I found a lovely Dutch apple cake with a sticky top, bit like a malty loaf and sticky bun cross ππ»π
Iβve been having a bit of a wobble for the last few weeks. Iβve developed a niggle in my left hip flexor, which is really painful. Before it started Iβd just done an 18k run then run a PB 5k time, I was halfway through a run home from work when it started to hurt. I think I just overdid it.
The physio has given me some stretches and strength exercises to do, and said I shouldnβt stop running. He also managed to release something in there with a (painful) massage. Last night I did my longest run in about a month β only 8k. I think my hip is improving because it only hurt from 6km in, rather than from the start like Iβd been experiencing before I saw the physio. Iβm just concerned that my 18km run will have happened 6/7 weeks before my race, and Iβm unlikely to run anything as long between now and then. I wonβt be as prepared and confident as I wanted to be, and Iβm so worried Iβll be in too much pain on the day. Iβm trying to work out how to balance being well trained and prepared, with not aggravating this injury.
Rant over.
My favourite bun is probably the cardamom bun from Fabrique. I think about those buns⦠most days.
Someone on here mentioned vanilla slices the other week, and Iβve been craving one ever since! Fresh cream apple turnovers! Peach melbas! Anything sweet! π
I got out for my first long run since the GNR today. My toes are still a bit bruised but they managed 26km quite comfortably - I was trying to find a nice consistent βeasy paceβ to extend distance. I struggle a little with this. My default βI am going for a longer runβ natural pace is always around 5.30 min per km at the start then I dip gradually. Aiming for 6.00 from the off feels weird but I definitely got the benefit towards the end. I only started to feel my legs a bit around 20km, stayed out of heartrate Zone 5, and I think I could have gone on quite a bit longer. Anyone (*cough* Jo-Jo, *cough* Decker π) got any tips for setting - and keeping -realistic pace to increase distance? Anyway, a particularly pleasing run since Iβd had a crap sleep after slicing the top of my finger yesterday. Ouch!
I had a very sedentary week as I was so busy at work and had to miss parkrun doing overtime. Boo. I really resented missing parkrun. So great to get out today and shake off post GNR worries. Now then. Cake!
ππ»π I cheat and just use music and singing to keep my breathing under control. If my breathing is good, my pace is good. The first few miles is always a tad too fast, too much excitement setting off but once I get into the groove with what I consider fairly laid back tunes, it's fine. I don't tend to pace by my watch, I only glance at it occasionally to check if I'm right with how far I think I've gone v how far is left and it's set to alert only every 3 miles, not every one so that I can zone out more.
I aim for 10:30 to 11 min miles on long, long ones but I don't sweat it as downhill go quicker/uphill slower.
Just jumping in here, but if I switch to breathing through my mouth rather than my nose I know my pace has crept up too fast for my slower runs. That's my way of knowing I've a sustainable paceβstick to nose breathing π
Blimey! Just read that post. π± Stupid thing with mine was it was a small, deep cut so Iβd put the plaster on very tight to stop it bleeding. By 1am I finally realised the pain was actually from cutting off the circulation to my finger tip all day! Unwrapped it and once the pins and needles finally went all was well.
Iβm aware this sounds truly pathetic compared to actually chopping off half of your thumb!
Just ran in torrential rain. All my clothes soaked through in seconds. Wet shirt. Wet shorts. Wet socks. Wet pants. Wet everything. Further proof that this running business is a sort of insanity, but kind of an exhilarating insanity.
Big fan of the Belgian bun, I've consumed a few times my body weight over the years!
Less than a week until Maldon Half Marathon this Sunday, just one "easy" run to do tomorrow. I've been following Greg MacMillan's plan on Garmin Coach and he seems as confident in me as he can be, so that's all good. I suppose I'm a proper endurance runner these days, as I said to my husband I was off for "just a short run" last weekend. He asked how long it was, and I replied "only an hour". π My training goal for Sunday was 2 hours 20, but I am aiming for 2 hours 30 in reality. I'll let you all know how it goes!
Hi. I love these weekly chats as sometimes I don't get on here as much as like and I've discovered its sooo easy to miss stuff! so its a good catch up.
Not too much happening with me, just trying to stick to 3 runs a week inc parkrun when I can. I really want to try to do half distance soon, as I came close a while back on a long run that went much longer than planned as I was enjoying it! but didn't quite make it as couldn't remember how far one actually was in K's plus I was tired and had to get to work!
Also trying to keep up with some cross training ..... cycling (weather and darkness permitting) to work and weekends, plus swimming, walking and pilates once week.
Pilates is hard! and has made me realise that I need to do more core stuff and warm up/cools down after a run, as I'm guilty of not doing this but just a 5 min plus walk (as per C25K days ) naughty , naughty.
Anyway happy running and resting everyone, and if on the IC speedy recovery. This forum is inspirational !
Advice please. So as I said havenβt run for 10 days although I have walked about 12 miles a day! Today went out (as yesterday was too wet!!). Unfortunately my watch died as Iβd not kept an eye on the battery. But I think I probably only did 4K Max. I really struggled. Breathing was fine but calves were murder. So with a HM in 10 days do I go out again tomorrow and run further, have a day off, hang my head and cry??? All expert advice gratefully received xx
Iβm no expert, but I would take a rest day tomorrow. 12 miles a day is a fair bit of walking. You need rest days to get stronger. Try and relax - we all have days like that so donβt worry! Good luck!
So many buns, so little time! There are just so many yummy ones. Can I choose two or three? Caramel doughnuts with custard filling (a bit like MrFoxβs) from Birds in Derby π and apple turnovers from Sainsburyβs. Pecan twists from Waitrose are lovely too but you have to run an awful long way to justify them so Iβd rather they didnβt exist π. See, there are just too many!
I may have to put my HM ambitions on hold for a while but itβs not for want of trying, I think I need to take longer to get there as Iβm getting injured too regularly. November is looking increasingly unlikely. Iβm going to see if anything comes of my VLM ballot entry and decide from there. If it doesnβt come up then I think Iβll just postpone it and aim for the Shakespeare Half in April. Itβs hard this running stuff sometimes, isnβt it?
I've been taking it easy from running this week after my iffy half, but alas am not afforded the option of taking it easy from work as well thanks to the current political situation π A plethora of late night debate programmes have definitely compounded the headaches. But never mind, next week is looking much brighter, and with more gaps for running! And I'm quite excited about dropping the focus from distance onto speed for a bit, for a wee night time 5k I've signed up to. Let's see if I can improve my time π
A cinnamon bun from BrauΓ° & Co! Oh they're so good, crispy on the edge and then really squishy in the middle, And huge! And they bake them every couple of hours throughout the day so they're always super fresh. Though really, I'll take any bun that's going.
My fave bun was the one I had post run this afto π§. A homemade carrot, choc chip, cinammon, walnut muffin
Dutch apple cake and tiramisu has been a feature of my Arnhem trip so I was pleased to go for a run this morning after having dog-walked yesterdayππ
Ten miles, mostly on the trail. Lovely πββοΈπ. I took Coach Bennett with me π
