I’ve read many inspiring posts of the course of 2019, so thank you all!
I started C25K in January with the view to form better life habits and also to be fit enough to run a half marathon at the end of sept.
I’ve been steadily progressing despite a sabbatical over the summer months and feel I have a good foundation to register a sub 2hour time.
I have just over 4 weeks to go and am not really following a plan.
After my 12 km run yesterday I felt ok, but I also felt like OMG I still have another 9km to do!
My question is how far should I be able to run before I take on the HM, how many long runs should I be doing a week and should I aim for a time or just aim to finish??
I go up to 18 km i Run to a structured plan to ensure I don’t run too much
I run a long run once a week, or at the moment, once a fortnight as i’m Marathon training
For the half marathon once a week should be fine I run four times a week now, but only recently have moved from 3 runs a week, which should be fine for the HM It’s what fit’s in with your life 🙂
You can’t make the distance come any sooner 🙂. You can only increase by no more than 10% a week Just tick off each run and line up the next. Think about the run immediately facing you 🙂👍
I think for your first event it’s about finishing which is why you put the training in so you’ll be confident you can go the distance
Thanks MissWobble, I’ll aim to fit in 3 runs a week. I definitely need to rest the next day and it’s tough finding the time with a job and a half and kids!
Some runners prefer to do the whole thing but 18 k is fine by me You might have time to get to the full distance before race day but if you don’t don’t worry about it.
Getting out for runs when you have so many other things vying for your time can be difficult, but when you do manage to get out and run it makes you enjoy it more
Have fun out there. Perhaps you can rope the family into Parkrun
Ive done 16.9k and that’s the longest I will do before my half marathon, since my training is time/heart rate based, not distance (I tacked about 10k on after my training run a couple of weeks ago just to reassure myself I actually could go that far). As I understand it, many people don’t do the full distance before the race. Look at a half marathon as just over twice 10k. Break it up in your mind. If you can pass the 17k mark before the day, you are almost there. 15k isn’t far off either, and you’ve already done 12. My half isn’t till mid October and I’ve already come within spitting distance.
