Long run day today with the encouragement of VRBs spurring me on; I was all set to run this morning when I was reminded that we were going out for lunch with friends! Quick change of kit required!
I scanned the menu for something light; squid followed by salmon seemed about right and I nobly donated my sticky chocolate brownie with ice cream to Mrs BC, who really enjoyed it ..... and didnโt attempt to hide the fact๐ฌ. The sacrifices I make!!
Apart from a very nice lunch, it was another day of phone calls and e.mails, and so time evaporated to the point where I knew I would need my trusty headlamp to navigate my way along my favourite woodland trail. I like running in the dark, so no problem. My target was 14k at better than 7 minute pace and despite slowing off involuntarily over the last 4K I managed 6:53. One fly in the ointment; VO2max chose to prick my bubble by deducting a point. Outrageous after all that effort ! Clearly I am not as fit as I imagined, but this run will help.
Still, 10 miles is back in sight and there is just time to squeeze that in before the virtual Vitality 10000. Bottom line; it is just good to be able to run these distances again. Sleep will come easily tonight! ๐

Wow on all levels BC! Great pace, great distance, wearing a head torch and after eating a delightful lunch (I can imagine Mrs BC demolishing your choccie brownie!)
10 miles is definitely within reach and youโre 100% ready for the Virtual Vitality! What a fab runner you are! ๐
Your VO2 Max will soon get back to where it should be. I can never understand what mineโs up to half the time either - it makes no sense to me ๐
Thanks CC. I am not really bothered about VO2 max; it is just a laugh! The important thing is that running has become a source of fun again rather than angst. A flat white and triple chocolate brownie awaits once I hit 10 miles again; little things !!๐
Well done Beachcomber66, I have been looking out for this post. You are doing brilliantly and will romp home in the 10k at the end of the month with all this distance work.
Thanks Dexy; my post was a bit late!! I think running in the dark works for me. I am looking forward to the 10000, hopefully we will have a fully fit team ๐
Fabulous! I havenโt even done 10k for weeks so am going to have to put some work in during the next 3 weeks or so. Still, I am so looking forward to joining the Southsea (not) parkrun crew on Wednesday. Missed my meet ups! Must come up to you before you get locked down again ๐คฌ
The Middlesbrough lock down line is just 10 minutes away by car; we will be lucky to avoid it in the next couple of weeks. The lower population density helps, but there are some areas close to the Tees which are comparable to Middlesbrough and they seem to be looking at whole local authority areas now.
You will be fit as fiddle by the 10000 ! I am running 10k at about 66 minutes; quite happy with that in the circumstances. You will have time for a cup of tea before I cross the line!!
I know, at this rate the whole country will be back in lockdown by stealth. Nobody seems to be able to answer why the areas with the greatest restrictions still have cases surging ๐คทโโ๏ธ There doesnโt seem to be any other approach considered though!
I havenโt done 10k faster than you for months so wouldnโt bet on it!
Ok thanks, but the second injury has put me back a bit. I've just managed to miss my in person physio session which I thought was next Monday, so I'm really furious with myself because I've got to wait another 2 weeks to see her now. She was very nice about it, but aaarrrgh!
Excellent BC - pleased to see my 14k prediction came true!๐ It must be catching - having done 10k this week, I decided I could go on for a further 2k, finishing with 6.46.
And forfeiting your chocolate brownie shows real commitment! I feel fairly confident in making another prediction............
Just a question of priorities Run46. I wanted to complete 14k yesterday even more than I wanted that utterly delicious looking soft centred ice cream crowned brownie (consumed with unseemly relish before my eyes ๐). When I complete 10 miles ......๐
