I'm exhausted! I have a problem, it's a serious problem that's causing me unnecessary hardship in life... I really struggle to stop and turn around when I'm running, I'm being serious. If I'm on a canal and I get to 5km, I think "one more kilometre! Get to 6, now get to 7, now get to 8" until I get to 10... I can't stop, my mind is in a 'zone'.. It works for me, gets me through some tough runs. Unfortunately, if I'm on a canaI, I end up finishing 10km away from my house... That's a long way to walk back. I managed to stop/sort of at 9k on this run because there was a field that I ran into, and I made a small loop. π€¦ββοΈ
So this what happened today, 10k and then I had to run/walk back, before it got dark. 18k though π Trying to get used to that distance, it just seems like such a LONG way at the moment.
Amazing stuff, Clubber. Sounds like you need the longer distances. Can you find a circuit route that brings you back round to home again, but just lengthen it a bit each time?
That's what I do usually Stephen, it only really happens when I run on the canal. I really enjoy running on the canal. I actually think although it's flat, it's quite difficult because you can see how far you have to go. It's a good one for mental discipline.
You can do all sorts stuff on the way back Walk backwards to stretch out your calves, pick up something for tea, pick some blackberries, check out a path/street youβve not been on, start jogging again, do some stretching etc etc. The time just flies by
It gets easierππͺ. Iβve always finished my runs a-ways from home and walked/run back After youβve walked for a while you find your second wind π
Woohoo well done clubber! ππ Yes that was a long run indeed! Hereβs a thought though - could you not turn round and run back the way you came? You could still build in some cooling down walking/stretching time ..... 8k is quite a looong cooldown isnβt it?! π π
Yes I could Cheeky, but my mind isn't rational when I'm running.. sense goes out of the window. In my mind.. I CAN'T stop, If I stop, I'll stop.. Windoze nailed it with Gump mode...
I know it sounds ridiculous, but it's happened too many times now.. It's real.
Well done! That is one of the reasons I plan circular routes, on an out and back it's so easy while you're fresh to think I just do a bit more and then you're further than you think. Plan it on a map first so you can really see the distance, it does help ππ»π
I'm glad I'm not alone.. All my routes are circular because of this... It's just when I'm on a canal. But don't you think it's mad? What is that about? π Even now, I think I'm talking nonsense, but I keep doing it! It really is an issue. π€£
πBrilliant... That's exactly what it is... It's Gump mode. I think I'm just going to have to accept my problem, have some 'gumption' and take some money and catch the train back!
Awesome! You're well on track for your half marathon then πππ
Very flat runs can often feel harder than those with a few ups and downs, because you are constantly using the same muscles and tendons - can be very tiring!
I actually did something like this the other day! I was feeling good, and the views were stunning, so I thought I'd push on a bit further. I ended up getting caught in torrential rain which I would have mostly avoided if I'd stuck to the plan - that'll learn me! OK, probably not π
I think the canal is my hardest run, you have to go somewhere in your mind, there's nothing to break it up, it's a real challenge for me. I think this is why I end up 10k away from my house. π
Gosh thatβs why my legs tire so much on my towpath route roseabi - itβs my long run route of choice as itβs mostly flat. My other routes afford me some relief after the effort of the uphill sections with lovely downhills. Makes total sense to me! π‘ π
