Hi fabulous fun runners!

Here we are, Monday again, and it's time to kick off a new Weekly Chat!

This week's question is a dilemma πŸ˜„

Would you rather:

A. Win a lifetime supply of a very favourably reviewed new running shoe only available in beige...

B. Win two pairs of your favourite running shoes in shocking pink!

ANYWAY 😊😊😊

Sometimes we don't feel like putting a whole post up but just want to share something small, so this is a great place for doing that during the week. Please join in the discussion!

If you're new or a lurker this is a great place to say a little hi without the pressure of a full post.

Happy running, awesome people!

Sqkr & roseabi

Although B is the more sensible response, I might take a punt on the beige wonders. I could always give them away if I didn't like them. Anyone on here wear a UK size 7-7.5? πŸ˜„

I've been having some Achilles trouble this week, so I've just been swimming and doing some upper body strength work in the form of push ups (plural) and pull up (singular). Also a full strength workout yesterday cos the heels are feeling better. Resting seems to be helping, so I'm hoping to make my 10K fancy dress run on Sunday. Costume is ready 😊😊😊

Have a great week, all xxx

Oooh that sounds like fun - the fancy dress that is - not the painful Achilles

Full srength workout! Good for you. I’ve been neglecting it totally. Must get back to it.

Have a good week. Hope your grumbling Achilles bogs off πŸ‘ŠπŸ’₯

B for me please have got speed,or in my case slow, results for last week 48.45=10.14 I am just coming to the end of my first years training log and on first glance I don't see any improvement until I look closer and realize I have run thro, two bad hip injuries or arthritis and a chest infection, and I'm still going also lost a stone in weight and at the mo feeling a lot stronger πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

I know I’m doing a Canute here, but it’s got to be shocking pink for me. Since moving into my sixties (how did that happen?!) I’ve found beige creeping into my friends’ lives. πŸ™€

While I’m here can I have a virtual HM medal, pretty please? I completed the Cranleigh Challenge Half yesterday and got to the end before dark. πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈπŸ˜

I'd go for B, as I like to be visible in traffic. This is despite my hating the color pink.

We visited hubby's family in Bergen at the weekend and ended up signing up for a fell event, although this wasn't decided until after I'd boarded my flight - and didn't have the right shoes - so I decided to just walk up the mountain. It was quite tricky, as there was lots of loose rock, and plenty of rubble to climb over and I have short legs, so it took me an hour to climb the 400m up - at least the course was only 2.1 km long. My 15-year-old did it in 26 minutes! It ended up being quite the family affair - with 8 of us there. We also won 4 of the prizes on offer - including two entries for my son to another fell event in Bergen in 2 weeks' time. Hubby and I have a 30 k event here in Oslo, so he'll get to travel over on his own, and run with my extremely athletic older brother-in-law.

Said brother-in-law pointed out that I should do more fell races, so I have something to write about in my column. Figuring that even doing badly should provide good material, I've signed up for an event here in Oslo at the weekend. It's 4.5 km, with an ascent of 270 m, and it's mostly on road, so at least I know I can complete it. I'm nervous. I don't like hills at the best of times, and I'll probably be all on my own that day, so I just have to resign myself to being the last finisher.

What a change from just two weeks ago, when I was bemoaning my low mileage and lack of varied training. It's all go now!

Completed my race yesterday so now getting ready for the next one, a 10k trail race in 3 weeks

My RunkeeperGo free year was up yesterday, but by the time I knew about it, it was already cancelled, so the remaining runs on the plan were gone. Just like that πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ I thought it might have let me complete my existing plan, but no ☹️ They don’t tell you it’s ending, just that’s its ended. Oh well. I don’t think it’s worth Β£40a year I might look at Nike app as it says that has free plans

I’m still horribly spotty and go back to docs on Thursday Feel ok though and running a 5k in a mo. I’m heading back to the trail for my training runs for the next few weeks

Have a good week everyone πŸ˜ƒπŸ’ͺπŸ‘πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

A for me. Never have to pay for another pair of trainers again? I'd happily wear any colour. Completed a HM yeaterday so I have that lovely honeymoon week period of running as and when I feel like it , for how far I want to go whilst planning my future event and training plan.

Haha, this question is very relevant to me because I have just bought a pair of Saucony Freedom ISOs in beige – I couldn't resist the Β£80 reduction from full retail price. I wore them yesterday to improve my 10k time to 52' 03", shaving 8 minutes off my previous best, so no complaints

Gosh, it didn't occur to me that there were actually any shoes available in beige! Lol!!! How very nice to find some good ones at £80 off though! 😊😊😊

First choice for me as I could not turn down saving that much money whatever colour they were πŸ€£πŸ˜‚

Had a lovely time at my 5 mile race yesterday - just about to write a run report.

Unfortunately having massive issues with the Army though 😑 Phoned this morning to book onto Selection to be told they know nothing about me being allowed to go - I'm still deferred according to their system. Also budget cuts mean I can't be paid petrol money as a Recruit anymore. It's a 100 mile round trip to rehearse every Wednesday so I literally can't afford to go anymore.

Positives out of negatives though - there's a club 5k on Wednesday that I'll now be able to take part in πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ˜πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

I was really upset earlier but now I'm just a bit annoyed. Going to ask for them to send me the money I spent on petrol the last time I went (you have to collect it at the barracks) as when I spent it I was not expecting expenses to be so abruptly stopped 😑

No brainer for me! Pink all the way (as I'm sitting here in head to toe bright pink scrubs getting ready for work 😁).

I got my first proper trail run in of the season on Friday and am looking forward to starting my new HM plan this week. The weather isn't supposed to be very nice next weekend but I have plans to head out to the lake regardless and get one, maybe even 2, trail runs this weekend. It may be a wet one, but it is much needed moisture for our area.

Ooooh lovely!! I'm getting hankerings for trail runs - hope you enjoy! 😊

Gotta be B! I'd get bored with the same shoes over and over 🀣🀣

Getting busy at work which is getting in the way of my midweek runs, sometimes only managing 2 all week. Frustrating but can't knock it really.

Aiming to manage a 15 miler before the end of the month, 17 by end of Jun, 19 Jul and 20 in Aug... let's see πŸ€žπŸ€”πŸ˜

Yep B for me too - the thought of being locked into something forever is no fun!

Just back from a sports massage which hopefully will have worked some magic on my tight and painful left calf - not bad enough to stop me running but very uncomfortable for the first km or so (and the day after a run!). Nice easy week for me ahead of a low key HM on Sunday - shouldn't be as windy as the last one but definitely hoping for some clouds πŸ˜€

Beige. Economics over fashion every time!

I'm sort of "tapering" this week before my HM on 18th (as usual I'm using it as an excuse to eat too much and only do a couple of 5k runs). No beer from now on either.. :-( but a barrel on Sat afternoon post-race (carbs) ;-)

Post HM Sat I did drink close to a barrel too! 1 pint of water one pint of ale style. Strange experiment trying to rehydrate and drink beer at the same time! (Not recommended) I'll post a mini race report in next week's chat post.

Macmac profile image

Yep, beige for me too. Don’t think pink footwear would suit me, but I would wear any colour - so if beige is unlimited it’s a no brainer for me.

I did my first official 5k road race on Saturday evening, after a very leisurely parkrun in the morning. Volunteered at junior parkrun on Sunday and then did a slow 10k trail run to recover from Sat. I’m pondering doing a trail marathon late June but unsure how much tougher than a road marathon it would be. I find trail running better than pavements normally - softer on the legs, so am considering it on that basis. I would not be running for a time, purely the distance so that removes any self-induced pressure. What does the panel think? I’m up to 18miles on the trails currently...

roseabi profile image
roseabiUltramarathon in reply to Macmac

Depends 😊 Is it hilly, technical, both? I think that a flat road marathon can be as hard as a hilly trail one in some ways - flatness and hardness are tiring in their own special way πŸ˜„ If you're talking VERY hilly and/or tricky terrain that would make the trail marathon possibly tougher. But since you say you prefer trails, and don't mind about your time, I'd think you'll have a blast!

Macmac profile image
MacmacMarathon in reply to roseabi

Thanks Abi - it isn’t exactly flat but no major hills as such. It is quite technical with mixture of surfaces but mostly country lanes/footpaths/fields. Will ponder some more πŸ™‚

Pink, all the way! Whilst beige has its place, it’s not a fun running colour is it? And, safety first, runners need to be seen! Bring on the bright colours. ❀️

I’m sneakily creeping my distance up at the moment and yesterday ran a surprise 12k - it was meant to be 11k, but I had tech issues. I wrote a monstrous post over on B210K about it - I still don’t feel worthy to post on the Big School forum!

So 12k in the bag - creeping up slowly! πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

I am buying white shoes to save money at the moment (they come often half the price) and I know why... have you ever run with white shoes??? they get very dirty very soon :)

so beige for free is a no brainier for me. if they are good and cheap they are usually mine :)

I have not run (if you discount 5 miles) this week (rest and give time back to my family after a fairly intense marathon training and a good result. I must say I am surprised on how my body recovered. I was ok, no particular pain since Wednesday.

So today i went out and did a 6 miles. I am looking to run a slow recovery week (40 miles maybe?) then travel for work. if I can fit in some speed running in the next week I will try to run a half marathon mid June. Just to use the fitness gained during the marathon preparation and maybe aim for a sub 90' (and beat my 1:30:09 ran last year...)

I'll keep you posted :)

Beige for me and then I would go and jump in the mud a few times :).

I’ve not been too intense this week. Did a short trail recon run on Sat along with some track work later in the morn. Missed my run pals who were on a longer route elsewhere. This morn went for a solo β€˜mental floss’ run in some dull rainy weather. Stopped for some breakfast halfway through. And tomorrow is interval/hills day with the group. Would like to plan some kind of run adventure this year, but I’m getting a bit of pushback from my family on that front so that’s likely more of a pipe dream. Next week is my trail race, but its really more to have some fun and get out there. Will need to find a marathon plan for the October waterfront race soon.

Could you maybe make it a short adventure? One night away sort of thing? Seems a shame to let go of the dream!

I'm playing with ideas like taking the train somewhere and running back or the reverse.... running a long way and then finding alt ways back.

Decker profile image
DeckerUltramarathon in reply to GoGo_JoJo

Yes something like that could work. We have some beautiful provincial parks within driving distance. Something a little bigger could also work, like running in Iceland (and seeing the northern lights) which were both bucket list items for me and Mrs Decker (minus the running for her).

GoGo_JoJo profile image
GoGo_JoJoUltramarathon in reply to Decker

Ah yes, that would be something indeed! Tricky to satisfy both preferences though, I do get it.

From memory I don't think public transport is all that over there, maybe you could get MrsD to drop you off and run back. If there was somewhere midway she'd like to check out, shopping etc she'd be available as support if anything went pear shaped.

Perhaps you can work up to Iceland πŸ˜‰
