A question about pacing in very strong winds πŸ€”

I'm pacing 32 mins at parkrun tomorrow and it looks like we will be running back into a 45mph wind and I'm a little unsure if how to approach it!

Please note I'm overthinking a bit here πŸ˜‚ all I actually have to do is come in at 31:45 which is not a problem - I would just like to give anyone who is using my services the best chance of a PB.

I'm thinking if I run equal splits the way back may prove too difficult for anyone following me but I'm also worried if I go out too fast that might also prove too much.

Has anyone any idea how much to adjust the split pace by (it's an out and back course) in winds that strong? I've paced in windy conditions before and adjusted by 6secs a km quite successfully but I'm not sure that will be enough tomorrow! πŸŒͺοΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸŒͺ️

Sorry haven't a clue, but well done you for pacing in the gales!! Actually thinking about it, it would make sense to pace equal splits, as they are more likely to have energy reserves left for the second half, even if it is twice as hard as normal!! Hopefully they will take the wind into account when choosing their pacer. Good luck for tomorrow, I won't be there (dogsitting duties πŸ•πŸ•) but I'll be thinking of you! πŸ˜πŸ‘πŸƒπŸ’¨

Thanks Helen! Just been to McDonald's at Ravenside and got blown back to the car! If it's like that in the morning I don't think I'll have much control over my speed on the way out πŸ˜‚

Yikes! I don't envy you! Does Parkrun ever get cancelled due to ridiculous winds?!

It has been cancelled before but before I was doing it. Looks from Facebook like they're going to check the course at 730 tomorrow morning and make a decision.

I ran back into a 45mph wind a few weeks back. It was low tide so they deemed it safe - not sure about tide times tomorrow x

Low tide at 11.15am so it will be lowish at 9. Fingers crossed! x

Have fun Marie. I’m doing a slow one tomorrow as have a 10 mile race on Sunday. I think we’re going to get saturated tomorrow πŸ˜‚ No help on pacing though πŸ€ͺ I’d think keep an even pace and people can fall behind and catch you up as they wish πŸ€·πŸ½β€β™€οΈ my ParkRun has never been cancelled in 8 years 😱

Good Luck tomorrow Tasha - hope the weather is kind to you!

Daniel ran junior parkrun in 50mph winds last week with only a second difference in his splits. Mind you everyone else managed to come back a lot quicker with the wind behind them - he was 4th at halfway and finished in 8th.

I'm not sure if anyone will actually try to PB tomorrow given the forecast although it always amazes me how many people manage it in absolutely atrocious conditions. I can't get anywhere near mine even if the weather's perfect 🀣
