Just tell us the name of your event (or events), the date of the event, AND WEBSITE! if there is one, and we will add it to the list.

LONDON Landmarks half Marathon on 24 March. So nervous as still can’t seem to run further than 8km! πŸ˜“

roseabi profile image
roseabiUltramarathon in reply to boo19jul

Hello! Welcome to the forum!!!!

I have added you to the list - our Linda9389 is also running that race. It looks like a fabulous one too!!

I wonder what is stopping you from running further? Please do post questions on here, we love to help - or pm me if you would feel more comfortable xxx

boo19julHalf Marathon in reply to roseabi

I honestly don’t know. I just seem to get too tired after around 7-8 K - am wondering if I should just aim to run/walk on the 24th. I am running approx 4 times per week at the moment . Thank you!! 😊

roseabi profile image
roseabiUltramarathon in reply to boo19jul

I think it would be an excellent idea to plan a run/walk - and be sure to practise it over the next three weeks. I'd cut out one, or even two, of your runs to help with the tiredness, and try for a long run/walk next week - really push yourself. Maybe aim for 12k, but go further if you feel you can. Make sure you take it slowly, and after that, at least two days off running to recover.

Sorry about the unsolicited advice 😊😊😊

Hey there - I'll be there too for my very first HM! Not long now πŸ™‚

All I can say for increasing distance is to try to add 1km per week, but run it deliberately slower than your normal pace to compensate for the extra distance. 4 runs a week would be way too much for me, esp as distance increases - I'm only doing two most weeks now, occasionally three. Lots of people plan to run/walk llhm so you will definitely not be alone if that's what you do. Good luck and here's hoping we have a great time πŸ™‚

Yup. From what I have seen the cold or flu has meant lots of people are not up to the distance on long runs. Enjoy the day, the atmosphere and take it steady :)

Make sure you get your nutrition right on the day and test it out before hand? I got up nice and early for my first HM last week and had a good bowl of porridge before and a banana. I took sweets as fuel and munched on them all the way round. Also I took my own water in a doughnut bottle, as well as drinking from the water stops. Get all your kit sorted out before the race, and make sure you use some grease or body glide to stop chaffing? I had to walk/run the HM distance as well. Don't worry loads of people do it. I started at the back of the race. That way hopefully you won't be in the way of the faster runners, they will all be nearer the front looking for PBs. Good luck xxx

Well, it goes back to me wondering what to do next, after 10 miles seemed to be my running limit 🀣 so I booked Cotswolds sprint Tri on 12th May, and Hercules Festival or Sport Northwood - which has a range of events, but I’m doing a sprint tri, on 2nd June πŸ˜πŸ‘

There are quite a few runners in our small run group doing it this year so I should have someone to run with which makes it much more fun!

I have committed to the Brighton HM 2020 for charity. So plenty of time to get ready for that one. I want to run the whole thing this time. I am going to do the Brighton Tri in September, but I haven't signed up to it yet as I am not sure if I should try and push myself and do the Sprint rather than the Super Sprint? Basically its the 750 meter sea swim that I am questioning? I can nail the 20 k cycle and 5 k run I am sure BUT and its a big but, Swimming is hard. I've only started swimming with any finesse recently, I am improving. However I have never swum more than 500 m in one go. If you sign up for an ambitious run distance you have the option of walking or resting. Swimming on the other hand the option is being pulled out by a rescue boat..! Not sure yet what to do .....

roseabi profile image
roseabiUltramarathon in reply to Snuffy_T

It's not that much of a difference, 500 to 750, and it's a while until September. Why not aim to do the sprint? Check the website, but I'm sure they'd let you drop to the super sprint if you really don't fancy 750m nearer the time.

I'll put your name on the list anyway - I'm doing Brighton Tri too (sprint)!

Have Brighton Half announced a date for 2020 yet? I can't find it with a quick look - can't put it on the Events list until I have a date, but let me know what it is and I'll add it 😊

Snuffy_T profile image
Snuffy_THalf Marathon

I am erring towards the short super sprint, as I could just focus on a faster time rather than just about staggering over the finish....! Also it's less scary.

roseabi profile image
roseabiUltramarathon in reply to Snuffy_T

Well, that is a very good idea - a fast finish will be a lot of fun! Fewer laps too. I wouldn't be tempted to do the Olympic distance at Brighton Tri, 8 laps on the bike? No thanks! πŸ˜„

I just signed up for the Coast HM on April 14th - entries were going up too fast; likely to fill before I've done LLM so I've just registered!
