Although I dropped out of the 5k and 10k challenges because I was mainly running longer runs I can report that my HM time last week was run at a 56:52 10k pace (02:00:14 for 21k) which means only a whisker off my 10k PB! So I will have a proper crack at a 10k speed challenge next time.
Yesterday was my only opportunity to run my usual speed challenge 10km route with the Sweatshop Running Community. I made sure I was well hydrated throughout the day, ate all the correct food groups in the right quantities at the right times and even put on my Runderwear socks. Time for the final push.
Unfortunately I then sat stationary on the M20 for about half an hour so missed the start, grrr.
Instead I joined the 5km runners who set off later and use parts of the same route. My results were 08:26/mile or 05:14/km or 314 s/km. Could I have kept that pace up for another 5km? We will never know but I like to think so with such diligent preparation and a bunch of long legged men to chase!
As I mentioned last week, no 5k for me this week but I have enjoyed making some progress. Still not back to peak, but hey it is winter! π. I did have a good track interval session yesterday though, and finished my last 400m in 1:26 - 3:35/km pace π. Just need to extend that beyond 400m now hehe.
OK, my aim this week was to avoid going slower than last week. My strategy was to try and maintain a steady pace around 5 min/Km. Seems it worked OK because my average was 4:54 min/Km (beating last week by 5 seconds/Km and suggesting that last week's sub 25 minutes wasn't just a fluke).
Think I need a rest but, if I do another challenge over the same course, will this be my new baseline?
And now for a week on the piste... (Bansko in Bulgaria, it's the only time of year when I look like my photo on here)
Hi Abi, I may not be able to complete the last run of the Speed Challenge, as I am all blocked up and can't breathe. Beginning to think its an allergy rather than a cold bug though so starting antihistamine tablets today...
Ugh, final run: 5:01 min/km - failed to beat my best time. Still, I feel kind of pleased with my performance. Beat a few odds by getting out there today, too πππ
Can't say enjoy is my first feeling about this challenge but I am mighty pleased with myself all the same - bit of a wet and windy 5k today but pace was 6.24/km and I claimed a 5k PB of 32.01 - a terrific 11 seconds faster than my previous best also set during the challenge (one day I'm determined to hit 5k in 30 mins π).
So thanks roseabi for organising this challenge - I've bettered my 5k PB by 58 seconds over the last 5 weeks π.
Morning Abi and fellow speedsters. Sorry for the late posting of my results this week. 1.02 miles in 6m30s, so thatβs a target pipping 3m57s per km. Whoop!
I warmed up for 5km at jogging pace beforehand, I think that really helped.
