This morning I was meant to be running the RunReigate 10k- getting to know how pre-race stuff works, getting nervous and then running in a crowd and learning to keep to my pace and not get carried away, before my HM in October. I even received my race number and had a goosebumps moment as it is a number I use in a variety of logins on the computer. It all seemed to be going so well.
So achilles update: after 4 weeks off, began to run last week, only twice a week and only as far as 5k. It is still letting me know it is there, but not the excruciating pains of before! And so with a heavy heart π, I decided against the Reigate event and thought Iβd try a shorter distance at home, on a bus route if things got really serious π And there you go, 6k became 8k became 10! Feeling chuffed but also very frustrated as I could have done Reigate after all. Iβm keeping hold of the longer term objective- I think Iβll start my tapering after the HM π as I still need to increase my mileage up to the race.
I hope everyone has enjoyed their running this morning, official events or not-Iβm off to make my own bling!

You did the right thing erring on the side of caution and not taking part in the official run. But WELL DONE on completing a 10k run anyway! Donβt be too disappointed that you didnβt get the bling - itβs the run that counts (though a bit of bling is lovely!). Hope you donβt feel any after effects on your achilles..
I did my third 10k this morning and got a PB so canβt complain. Happy running πββοΈ π
Even though you were able to run 10k today, you mayβve pushed it too hard during a race so I agree with BlondeAmbition72, you made the right decision. You have to keep your eye on the prize, your HM.
Well done.... when I did my first half marathon with my son ( off our own backs) my daughter made us a special medal, and I will always treasure that far more than any of the jingly jangly ones.
