Yay, well done amazing peeps πͺππ. A veritable smorgasbord of running there. Run wild, run free and bring home the bling πββοΈπββοΈπͺππ
Good luck everyone. I would say Break a Leg, like they do in the theatre but maybe not........ π So I'll just say, do your best, have fun and may the running gods add some extra spring to your legs ππ
Gulp....I'm fully into faffage mode at the moment, having packed and unpacked my bag a few times already... I head off to the Tallinn marathon by ferry tonight from Helsinki and will sleep on the boat, arriving 0545. As this is my first marathon it's all getting a bit real right about now! What was I thinking!?
Now; the thing is, the two "characters" who originally talked me into the marathon did so fully intending to run themselves and duely signed-up at the same time as me, however, they've both picked up knee injuries over the last few weeks so it's just me running now! They both also bought the travel package, so bless their hearts will still be coming along in "support"(i.e. taking full advantage of the ferry's 25β¬ all you can eat buffet with free booze and the 3am nightclub etc on the way over, snoring in the wee hours in the cabin and sitting outside a strategic pub at Tallinn west beach tomorrow at a point I have to pass at 12, 20, 23 and 27km!) The beers they've promised to raise in salute every time I pass are going to look damned good! The beggars. A beer on the boat home will be sweet though!
I got up to 31km as my longest run during training without feeling too bad, so I think I can mentally envisage a further 10k...Just hope my fuelling strategy works and I the legs hold out. Two gels before the start then one every 30 mins plus walk through all the drink stations. I've decided to jog the whole way at about 7:00 pace since finishing is way more important than the finishing time at this point and whatever time I get it will be a PB! I'm pretty much going to run at around 130 bpm heartrate as I've found that that's my run-all-day exertion level with slow/relaxed breathing. I just have to avoid the excitement of the first few kilometres and not get sucked along at 6:00-6:30 pace. My mantra will be " Start slow, run slower". The weather looks good initially with 17-22 degrees but with thunderstorms in the last couple of hours (a good drenching might feel great at that point!)
Thanks for all the support of you lovely people on here from all round the globe, I still can't believe this is pretty much my runiversary from starting c25k when I was praying for the "Run 1 minute" to be over! I
I'll be praying for the "Run 5 hours!" to be over by 2pm tomorrow that's for sure.
Good luck to all the other competitors this weekend. We can do it!
Awesome! Have you packed a waterproof jacket to put on when you finish? The rain will make you get cold when you've stopped. Your food every 30 and walking through water stations is the same strategy I used this year π
