Love the photo! Did a 7k run yesterday which felt brilliant (can't believe I just said that!). Discovered a new route - met a horse.

Have a lovely week everyone :)

I do enjoy meeting a horse on a run. Or indeed a cow, pig, duck etc etc.

Nightmare of a flipping month so far, first a giant blister (fixed in only two days via the magic of compeed), then food poisoning (fixed in three days thanks to the magic of ejecting absolutely everything from my body), and now somehow in avoiding festival crowds this weekend I stumbled off the pavement and have done something to my calf muscle (mindful of a 10k event on Sunday I've put a tubigrip on to keep it compressed and warm, am resting it as much as possible and am hoping it fixes soon). ARG WHY. All weekend plans aborted, I have done no running since Friday 😔 My moon contribution will be pathetic.

GeorgiosA profile image

Ouch - food poisoning is awful :( Hope the calf gets well soon - you ;re doing the right things...and thank god for Compeed!

Thanks all, I'm so grumpy about it all 😠🤣 I'm having to tell literally everyone I have spoken to so far.

in reply toSqkr

Poor you, bummer. Hopefully that’s the end of the illness and injury streak. And what is compeed? It sounds like something geriatric!

Sqkr profile image
SqkrHalf Marathon in reply to

Magical Compeed hydrocolloid blister plasters! They're brilliant. Would recommend to anyone with a troublesome sore foot.

I'm basically telling myself I'm tapering, not injured, though I'm really not sure you need to taper for a 10k 🤔

in reply toSqkr

Oh, I haven’t had blisters with running yet! A pain for you having physical niggles right now though. Wishing you a very rapid return to normalcy x

Oh dear!! Surely that's your run of bad luck over and done with for quite a while?? They do say these things come in threes ... hope you're feeling tickety boo in no time at all! xx

Continuing to move my weekly workouts around to fit in with life! I was driving for hours and hours and hours over the weekend and my Achilles and plantar fascia are a bit cross with me now :) It's my 13th wedding anniversary today, so I'm thinking of shifting tomorrow's intervals to Wednesday in anticipation of the "couple of drinks" I may have tonight... here's to health!!! :D

Thank you Georgios! And many congratulations to you :)

So tired at the moment and running more slowly, and can't pin down why, as was feeling really energised the last couple of weeks. I have to say the colder weather doesn't suit me, and my sleep is patchy as always thanks to my restless partner. Honestly, my parkrun on Saturday felt more like 10k than 5 and today's 7k run was a struggle till the 5k mark, and I'm exhausted now. It's worrying as I have a 10k charity run at the end of September. Nutrition is good, so it can't be that, and I'm well hydrated. I've increased my weekly distance a little but not massively. Ah, well, these things go in cycles so I hope I will pick up again soon.

roseabi profile image
roseabiUltramarathon in reply to

Sorry to hear that :( Sleep does have a major impact, and maybe you've also happened upon a lurgy of some sort? Try not to worry, I'm sure you will pick up again soon!

in reply toroseabi

Thanks Abi. I don’t think I’m ill as this has happened before, then I pick up again. I think I have to remember I’m 71 not 17 and my body gets tired more easily when I push it. Frustrating though 😳

APScotland profile image
APScotland in reply to

Sorry to hear you're feeling a bit sluggish. Do you take vitamin C? Linus Pauling recommends taking it every day, without missing a day - helps keep low level infections at bay, and reduces inflammation, and a whole host of other useful effects. I generally take 2.5g of vit C powder mixed with an equal amount of bicarb of soda to neutralise the pH, in a mug of 50:50 juice (often beetroot!) and water - I sip it through the day rather than taking it all at one go, as the body can use it more effectively that way. That dose is when I'm feeling fine. If I feel a bug coming on, I'll take 1g per hour til I feel better! Hope you're feeling great soon! xxx

in reply toAPScotland

I don’t but I’m a fruitaholic. And I don’t have an infection - I hardly ever get ill and know when I am. But I already take B12 because I’m vegan and our food nowadays has been overcleaned so we don’t get B12 naturally from dirt, and vitamin D because it’s harder to utilise it when you’re ancient. I’ve also started taking magnesium. We shall see.

Lordi profile image
LordiMarathon in reply to

Marmite for B12 too, in addition to unwashed veg. ;-)

in reply toLordi

Did you know Canada won’t import marmite because of all the additives in it? Lots of vegan prepared foods like soya milk and yogurts and sosmix etc have B12 added. Anyway, Mr I Don’t Snore hogs the marmite 😕🤨😡

Sqkr profile image
SqkrHalf Marathon in reply to

It's the added vitamins that Canada have taken issue with, they don't like the British fortified version. They do import it by all accounts, they just have to have a weak, feeble Canadian version on their shelves! I like the strong stuff 💪

in reply toSqkr

Lol. Well, when all’s said and done, it’s a lot more palatable than vegemite

I grow my own and often eat straight from the plant Standing there’s scoffing peas is one of life’s joys The other night i’d Had a bath and was still in my bathrobe when I had to resort to plan B for dinner. I went down the garden and started digging taters up, in my holey Crocs. Filthy feet 🙄 Fun though, and fab chips I think growing and eating homegrown stuff makes me hardier 💪

She said trepidatiously😎

in reply tomisswobble

I love peas from the pod. Cashiers on the checkouts don’t know what they are - like they grow in bags on a Birdseye bush.

Ha ha I know 😃. Someone in front of me put a loose garlic bulb on the conveyor belt and the chap on the till asked him if it was a mushroom 😁

in reply tomisswobble

😂😂😂But in a way it isn’t funny. It means kids are becoming more alienated from the natural world and growing up without the knowledge people have had from the dawn of time.

misswobble profile image
misswobbleMarathon in reply to

It’s sad how folks have become disconnected. My mother could do anything, but she'd had to! Now, folks don’t have to, or aren't prepared to. As folks become affluent they see it as being below them, so they go down the route of least resistance until they become the biggest consumers of the world’s resources, and the most profligate. Using a tumble drier when the sun’s out 😁 Thin end of the wedge

If I don’t grub about in the dirt everyday i’m Not a happy Wobble

in reply tomisswobble

I’m being hit by this attitude trying to sell my house. they can’t park their car outside so they don’t want the house. There is free parking three minutes in either direction, But apparently a three minute walk either end of the day is a massive problem. Since when was your car more important than your home? They go off and buy a much smaller not so nice house because it has parking. The extent of people’s disconnection frightens me. No wonder the planet is under such threat.

Did my first longish run yesterday in the steamy rain. 16k on road and tricky trail, playing at fast feet over tree roots in the woods 🙂. Felt really tired on the way back though, and at times it was just one foot in front of the other. Another training run ticked off though ✅

I tried a different running route today, as I found myself in Kemnay ... a less hilly place than where I normally run. I felt the difference ... I was much more sprightly at the end than I usually am, having gasped all the way back up the hill to my house! I did my pyramid intervals along the way, and am now feeling quite content, much less tired than after my 10K on Saturday, and contemplating trying my first ever parkrun this weekend in Keswick, at the start of a wee holiday down there. :)

roseabi profile image
roseabiUltramarathon in reply toAPScotland

Lovely, well done! And I am very much liking the Keswick parkrun idea!!!

feeling good! A lovely Cardiff parkrun on Saturday (my first international parkrun) felt speedy I just got quicker and quicker and beat my best time this year by a whole minute ( won't mention it was pancake flat).

So this week is all about preparing for a triathlon on Sunday, so an easy 10k run, an easy 20k bike ride and if the weather stays sunny i might even try and go for a swim in the late. But i will also go up bacon hill on Wednesday night as it will mark my 4 year Runniversary.

Nice kestrel 🐦

I am on the IC for a week or two. Shame as it interrupts my training for a mid-Sept 10k race, but all part of the running lifestyle. I did run the junior park run yesterday where my youngest daughter collected her marathon wristband for collective park runs totalling marathon distance. And got to meet another C25ker who I can't tag as she's not on this part of the forum.

roseabi profile image
roseabiUltramarathon in reply toWhatsapp

That's very philosophical of you! Hope you're better asap. Well done, daughter!!!

She hasn't taken the wristband off yet. I am trying to be calm about it but I am gutted to not be running.

This week the plan is a 10k+, a long run (26k) and a jogette 5k.

Edit- Will start experimenting with marathon fueling too. Found some small cheap nut/toffee bars at 200 cals a shot recently. Quite tasty. Will see if I can gobble one down after 15-20k this week....

I’m doing 24ks at the moment - last one this weekend and then cut back for a week before going onto longer ones 😮. This week is 5, 12 and 24. I’m using Tailwind powders and no solid stuff which seems to be working for me.

Managed a brick workout yesterday - 20km bike followed by 5km run in prep for triathlon on 9 Sep... Cut 4 min of my time from last week even after taking a curb incorrectly and going flying off my bike into a street sign pole... Not my most graceful moment... Nice bruised rib and luckily the mountain bike was fine...

Enjoyed a lovely swim this morning and have a easy 12km planned for this evening :)

Big race ahead this weekend, my first 30km using it as a LSD for next months marathon! Big hills all the way....

roseabi profile image
roseabiUltramarathon in reply toDiveMonkey

Ow, and awesome!!!

in reply toroseabi

What she said!

Last week was a bit sketchy, my plans were knocked off and delays were had due to parties both Friday and Saturday night, and sledging on Sunday (indoor - Snow Factor). Gotta be done!

I did fit in 3 short training runs, the last being a practice run of the Parkrun, which I still haven't gotten to yet, but I know the course so thought it'd make a nice change. I still managed to squeeze in Sunday's long run (9K) last night to stay on track.

This week...another messy one perhaps with my daughter asking to start the C25K, so I'll break down my training runs into some with her, then make up some missed miles afterwards - at least I'll be warmed up!

I have a 12 minute test on Thursday's run, so I'm excited for that and to see whether it changes my HM plan which I understand adapts to suit. All very interesting.

Then the long 'un at the weekend is a 10K - it'll be nice to get back to a decent bit of distance after cutting back a few weeks ago, let's hope my legs agree!

Good luck with your running plans this week everyone!

Hi all! I'm finally back from my holiday, and hoping to finally sort out my foot and my training. It was amazing to see how quickly the house of cards that is my body collapsed once I cut down on my running.

I did parkrun on my last weekend in the UK, and managed to run about 2/3 of it, so that wasn't too bad. I'm still at the stage where my foot hurts the rest of the day if I run, but is OK the next day.

So for now, I'm focusing on strength training and indoor biking, and I hope to start slowly building up my running form again soon.
