Tad Scared, and Wondering What I'm Doing...

Hello, I managed to run 10k for the first time back in May, but then got a tick bite which stopped me for a couple of weeks. I am now running 10km slowly but getting there. I am running the 10km Windsor Women's Run and the 10km Spitfire Run in September

However, in a moment of madness, I decided to apply for The Great South Run. 10 miles. Please be nice- I am doing it for a charity called ATLA which supports training for lip reading tutors and support running lip reading classes for people with hearing loss. The classes are great, as they also act as a support group and have helped me a lot.

Thanks, Nell x

Hello Nell! I'm doing the Great North Run and also accidentally the Great Scottish Run, so although a different location I will be feeling your pain come September 😊 By then you'll be more than ready, I'm sure, it's not madness at all! I know there are others here doing the GSR so you're in good company.

Thanks :) the Great North Run is my ultimate aim for next year (I was born in Hartlepool but escaped to Hampshire). Good luck with your runs. GSR is late Octoberish. I am going to my first running group meeting tomorrow to help with speed and confidence.

Yours,

Nell x

Hello!! And an enormous big snuggly welcome to the forum, with ice cream because it's pretty hot at the moment :) If you like ice cream, anyway. What's your favourite flavour?

I digress :D The Great South Run looks like an excellent choice to me, some people were just chatting the other day about what a great distance 10 miles is (see the post "Harry Hawks 10" healthunlocked.com/marathon... ). And you have loads of time to train for it - have fun! Great cause too.

Do you mean you picked up Lyme Disease? Nasty :( Some people have been sharing about that on the Beyond C25K Facebook group facebook.com/groups/BeyondC...

Looking forward to hearing more about your training and racing!

Ice cream- always. I love Rum and Raisin (but not Carte D'or- that's just yuck) or there was a seller who sold elderflower sorbet on top of Harting Down last year which was scrummy.

Luckily no Lyme Disease but I had an allergic reaction to the tick, and 111 told me to go to A&E (the rash went half way across my back). By the time we got seen at 2.30am (4 hours later) the allergic reaction had settled and the rash faded, but I was on 2 antihistamines a day for two weeks which unfortunately caused me to just be zonked. The bugger also got me right on the bra line so the irritation didn't help. It just meant I failed to run for a couple of weeks.

Still, on with the running tonight- in the middle of the England game as well.

Lucky, but that's also pretty nasty - poor you.

Should be quiet out for your run :D Have fun!

I did my first 10K in May too! I keep seeing adverts for the Windsor one and wish I could do it but the date doesn’t work for me. Sounds like quite a fun year you’ve got planned. At home we often say “just do it scared” you’ll be so proud of all you achieve this year!!
