Hey, you foxy people :) Welcome to a new week!!!

Sometimes we don't feel like putting a whole post up but just want to share something small, so this is a great place for doing that during the week. It's fabulous to see everyone's training updates each week!

If you're new or a lurker this is a great place to say a little hi without the pressure of a full post.

Let us know how your training, cross-training, resting, running, racing, burrowing... is all going!

Have a great week, and run like foxes!

That's all the incentive I need. And hello you! Was lovely to see you at 25K, sorry I was not terribly with it :)

I had a strange, hot weekend, with a big focus on running. First was parkrun, where I volunteered with hubby, while my two eldest ran. Then off to run an event I haven't posted here. Ecotrail Oslo, where hubby and I had decided to only run the 10K distance (out of 21, 30, 50 or 80). The temperature hovered around 30, so I'm sure it's no surprise to anyone that I wilted quite quickly.

While we were running, my daughter developed heat stroke (headache, nausea, vomiting). We tried to take her to the daughter, but she had started recovering by then, so she wasn't prioritized, and ended up being sent home.

After feeling pretty low all day yesterday about my poor result on Saturday, I went for a 10K run last night. I love making the most of our bright nights this time of year, and the run went really well.

So this week I'll probably just do one run, then I'm off to Longyearbyen on Thursday, and run my HM on Saturday. If the link works, you should see a photo of a polar bear inspecting the course last week. facebook.com/spitsbergenmar...

A polar bear on the course is very impressive. I get excited if I see a rabbit or a squirrel on the path!

Glad your daughter is ok, that is a little scary as a parent. And happy to hear you had a positive evening run to put a cap on the earlier rough 10k.

The polar bear is something special. You don’t see that in every race!

Reindeer also roam freely in the town. I'm mostly worried about aggressive arctic terns coming to peck us on our heads.

Terns, Reindeer, Polar Bears! You have it all! We might have a Fox or a Squirrel 😊

Sorry to hear about your daughter and your feeling low - glad things turned upward in the end! Heat is so difficult to deal with.

Flippin eck a polar bear!!! Wow!!!! Some of us had run-ins with cows during my race on Sat/Sun, but that seems a bit tame by comparison :)

I'm glad your daughter is okay - that must have been very worrying.

Polar bears, reindeer, aggressive terns... I saw a rabbit today!

I am planning my next steps on my pull up training. I’ve decided to keep a training journal too. It might help me focus and keep my eyes on the prize...

C3PO profile image
C3POMarathon in reply to ju-ju-

Training journals are really handy. I don't have one per se, but I've been logging all my runs in Mapmyrun from the start, and I often go and look at my old runs when I need reminding of how I've progressed.

roseabiUltramarathon in reply to ju-ju-

Ooh, pull ups! I need to get onto those too. Is this a 3D paper journal?

Yes I’m in town for work today so I’m going to choose something - an actual notebook!!!

Cooeee Roseabi. Have you got any news to share? Surely your fingers aren’t tired 😁

I hope your daughter is ok now C3PO. Another HM! You’re a busy lady! πŸ˜ƒ

Polar bear 😱

Just started my new training plan. Missed today’s run due to events conspiring against me. So not a great start. Sulk ☹️

Naughty conspiring events. You'll get there though! :) xx

Was debating doing an HM vs Marathon next. Am now leaning towards maybe another HM this year and looking towards a Marathon later on. I am in no immediate rush. πŸ™‚Having said this, I did begin a marathon plan just to see how I would manage the longer distances in training.

Am still doing the long Saturday runs with my run group. Have a half half (around 10k) trail run just for fun coming up in June.

C3PO profile image
C3POMarathon in reply to Decker

It's hard to say what's best. Marathons are special, but for you and me, with our long winters, a spring marathon is more difficult to train for than it is many other people. And it isn't fun going for 3-hour runs when it's freezing out. If you're in no rush, I'd do an HM and find a marathon that means something to you. It's easier to commit when you're invested.

Yes, I was thinking of doing the waterfront half marathon in late Sept this year and maybe a full one next year. That way I can train through the summer for it. Its the biggest race around here. I’d just like to get really comfortable with the long distances and then enjoy the race.

I finally plugged the actual date of my HM in to the Garmin plan and it doesn't need to start until 11th June. Hooray - holiday! Or not. The good news is that I went to the chiropractor to be rebuilt today (hadn't been for 8 months) and she did a variety of horrible things and my lurking PF seems to have gone away :)

Good news!

I still have to do the exercises, of course, but the violent attack on my feet seems to have made a difference :)

I forgot to tell you all about the most interesting thing that happened to me last week! Our parkrun team had lunch with Paul Sintkn-Hewitt and some of the other heads of parkrun global last Friday. Paul ran the course, and the rest of us chatted. It was very nice to talk to all of them, and Paul was very friendly.
