Marathon fuel advice please

Hi all you fab marathoners

Follow this group as hope to one day complete at least a half marathon πŸ˜€

However, in the meantime my stepson is running London on Sunday and since joining various groups on here and reading about running I've discovered about refuelling!!

Was wondering what your go to refuel tips (snacks) are that I could have handy to give him as he passes by. I know everyone will be different and I'm not sure what he does. I don't think he like the gels etc so was thinking more of sweets, dried fruit etc. What is your advice please?

Thanks all and good luck if you're running too! Hope the heat is not too much and you all have a great day !

That's so supportive of you! I know jelly babies are a good one. The problem is you don't want to give him anything he hasn't used in training before in case you upset his stomach/routine. Have you asked him or do you want it to be a surprise?

As it's going to be warm some water might be more welcome! At the Brighton Marathon this weekend a lot of spectators were offering orange wedges, which are not much different to a drink I suppose, because one just sucks out the juice. I had one, and although it was refreshing, it was a bit messy, and got stuck between my teeth, so I'm not sure I would partake again! Something salty might be appreciated, perhaps Ritz crackers. As Nictwit said though, he may not want any food, so be prepared for rejection :)

Thanks guys - I appreciate your advice. I haven't asked him as he doesn't live near me and we are both pretty busy so chats are short and quick. More about how training is going. 😊

He's run London a few times plus some others and I've never seen him eat it was just something I'd never thought of until I got into running myself but refuelling makes sense. Maybe I'll just take a few jelly babies or similar and chuck them st him as he runs by!! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

I was thinking with the weather report something cold like ice pops might be better. 😬

Thanks again πŸ˜€

Wow, he sounds like a serious runner! I bet he uses gels, fast marathoners only take a couple of them. Nobody actually LIKES them though :) Have a lovely day on Sunday, and give me a wave!

I would say jelly babies, buttery flap jack bites, orange segments, raisins, rhubarb and custards ( my daughter rescued me with a packet of these at mile 16 of my last marathon when I was really feeling feint and yucky. They totally revived me and I kept one in my mouth for the next 4 miles!!!). Good luck to him βœ‹
