Feeling cross πŸ˜†

Hello.

As you may have noticed, I'm on the famous Big Brother Injury Couch at the moment! Except I'm not really, because I'm getting loads of swimming, biking (now the weather's a bit nicer anyway!), and strength training in. Just no running. For the moment.

I've got quite a few races coming up soon though, so things are a little tense in my world right now πŸ€ͺ

I try not to be a cherry-picker, but I do like this article that totally confirms my assumption that all the cross training will help me retain my running fitness somewhat 🀭

What's your favourite cross training activity? Feel free to include "eating chocolate" in the list...

mmmmm I love Ritter..... poor you thats so crap. Interesting article, I have to confess i have never really understood what it actually meant!!!!

My fave has to be Spinning, its like a sweaty disco without the bother of creepy boys asking you to dance and expecting the obligatory snog ;)

That bar was delicious, and didn't last long!

Ah, those creepy boys :)

Mine is a mixture of almost constant walking, which I have to do and it’s free, which is why I like it so much πŸ’ͺπŸ‘ πŸ•. I do include it as a cross training exercise as I do some serious miles. Loving going to the gym for my strengthening sessions. Loving my yoga dvd’s Too. I would love to say cycling but sadly not. I am so hopeless at it but if I couldn’t run then I would deffo be on the bike getting some miles in

I would love to say swimming too, and if I ever get my stupid ear fixed, I will

A mix of exercises has to be a good idea. We can’t, or shouldn’t, put all our eggs in one basket 🐣

Doing some other exercises while on the IC is good for your mood. If you are taking positive steps towards getting better then it makes you feel more optimistic πŸ™‚πŸ‘

I reckon walking is the best exercise of all! Stupid ear :(

What you say about optimism is so true! ❀️

I think it must help. Because how could you explain my 15 mile run this week, after 3 weeks of very little training? I read several sites that said that cross training doesn't help unless you get your heart up to the same rate, which never happens on my bike. I decided to ignore them, and go for long sessions anyway.

It must be doing something for your legs at least! It's probably best to ignore most of what you read online, says she who has been torturing herself with symptoms for the past month :D

I quite like the idea of β€˜tug of war with the cat’ πŸ˜‚, think I could manage that....but my favourite is hula hoop, good for your core and whittles your waist.....

Hula hoop!!! Awesome.

I play 'fetch' with my cat - although it was only working my throwing arm originally, she seems to miss the point of the game recently and I find I'm having to get up and fetch it for her as well. Stupid cat, but bonus exercise for me :)

Oooh, chocolate! Not sure about eating the keks though - aren't they a bit chewy and smelly? Yuk!

When I started my at gym all I was doing was cross-training on the bike and the rowing m/c. I only joined because the weather was so foul and I hated running outside. I found that even though I wasn't running, my running didn't drop off at all - although let's face it, I am hardly an elite athlete so there ain't much performance involved. But still :D

That's what I like to read!!

Those keks were surprisingly tasty :D

Fast walking l love. And squats, Squats and walking. And planks. Swimming in the sea is obviously a limited activity but when it's there, that's another.

Keks is serious business. Addiction level serious business.

Fast walking, interspersed with squats and planks, and followed by a swim in the sea! Who needs running?

Everyone needs keks.

I have always kept my running fitness up with speed (now race walking) and swimming. The times when I have been on the IC I am never that far away from a 3km run when I get back to it and build up after that. It always surprises me how easy it is to come back. I add in extra weights and stretches when training for a HM to keep me strong. I do find that swimming is the one that seems to put my muscles back in place, I find that if I run with out swimming after a few weeks I am aching a lot more. Hope you back out there soon.

I usually include swimming and cycling plus one yoga class but that went out the window last week as its was my first week of my training programme with running 4 days a week I run Monday,Wednesday Friday and Saturday with Wednesday being interval training

As its not light enough in the morning yet and my classes are all evening ones I have had to get myself sorted so I only did running and yoga last week but starting next week (tomorrow) is the full programme

I didn't do park run this week as I did 5 miles the first long run for a while I shall do it next week and the following week I am a volunteer so I shall run there

Trying to increase my speed and stamina for the HM ahead

It can be really hard to fit it all in! There's not enough days in the week usually, but I'm sure you'll be fine :)

You're doing the Great North Run aren't you? Would you like me to add you to our Events calendar? We'll give you a cheer on the day!
