Saturday was an inspiring day. I arrived about one hour before the first talk, which gave me plenty of time to study the clothes on offer. The London Marathon long-sleeved tops mostly didn’t appeal to me, but I found some tights I liked. They had an offer of 20% off if you bought two items, so I picked up a pack of socks, and ended up paying less than the original price of the tights.

The talks were good, and although there wasn’t much we don’t already know, there were a few nuggets here and there. It was particularly fun to see Martin Yelling and Vassos Alexander up close, and they were entertaining as usual.

Here are the tips that I found useful.

* In addition to water and Lucozade, they will be handing out Lucozade gels at two stations.

* We need to drop off our bags before 9:25.

* The expo is quietest on Friday between 6 and 8 pm.

* Don’t pour water on yourself if you’re hot, which will make the road slippery for others. If it’s hot, they’ll put out showers.

* There are photographers at the 384 yards to go mark. Smile from then on - it’ll trick your body into doing better. Plus you'll get a much better finishing photo.

* Some people take a selfie at every mile marker. Maybe you should too.

* An even split is best, consider running with a pacer. You can find them at the rear of their pens.

At lunch, it was possible to get books signed, but the lines were so long that I just bought a couple of books. At the end of the day, we were given a goody bag as we left. It wasn’t very exciting. A couple of bottles of water, a beer, Lucozade and the Lucozade gel that they’ll be handing out. That was handy. We also got the Feb issue of Runners World, which was good, as I hadn’t read it yet. There was also a coupon for a discount off books from Bloomsbury publishing.

Great reportage...and interesting stuff. as for the water thats rubbish. Everyone lobs water over themselves. When I did Paris the fire brigade were there to hose us down regularly which was fabulous!!!

Not yet. I've just returned from a long run and considered it, but since I can't get anymore over here I didn't. But there's really no reason to wait, so I'll try next week.
