Sponge advice

Tomorrow's 17K race is less than a day away, and the forecast is for 25C and sun. My race pack came with a sponge, but where do I carry a dry sponge? I'll be wearing a hydration belt, so maybe I can tuck it in there until I start using the sponge.

What do you usually do with your sponges?

I've never been given a sponge!

I'd be more worried about where to carry a wet sponge...

Once it's wet I can pop it under my cap.

Soggy, but cool.

Never been given one and not sure what I would do with it. Don't want to sound patronising but have you checked it's not the timing chip.

Good luck for tomorrow.

Also never had one. Maybe I should bring a washing up sponge on my next long run.

Today I did with my sponge what I normally do. Left it at home and used it to wash the cup that I drank my post run chocolate milk from 😂

Never been given one. What run are you doing?

I am intrigued, what did you do with your sponge? Please let us know lol.

I think I am too late- I was given one when I did Paris- it's to soak in the bowls of water to freshen up etc!! I found it very helpful in the heat!!

Hi all! Will write a proper report later, but I suddenly realized what the mysterious elastic fasteners on the side of my hydration belt were for. Sponges! I saw another runner do the same. A third runner stowed it in her shorts. I bet she suffered chafing.

The sponge was definitely a lifesaver!

Hope you had a great race Cristina! Sponges on a hot day is a perfect idea :)

Ps IWRR have offered the remaining left over St George's medals , with a fee and then send in proof of completion by end of December, so 5 of us are going to run the route together and claim our Dragon medals! :)

So glad you'll have the chance to earn one of those nice medals yourself!

This has reminded me of the song 'The Queen is Dead' by The Smiths:

So, I broke into the palace

With a sponge and a rusty spanner

She said, "I know you, and you cannot sing"

I said, "That's nothing, you should hear me play piano"

:)

Looking forward to the report, 3PO!
