6 months ago I had a vvitreous gel pull in one eye. I have wet amd in both eyes. My vision in that eye became quite blurry and hasn’t improved. My ophthalmologist just told me I have a scar but he doesn’t know why. Anyone else have this issue.?

I don't Bb - I have had vitreous detachment in the past but no scar. I would ask the ophthalmologist if the scar will disappear and if it's expected to, how long will it take. Also, can anything be done about it.

Thank you. I did ask why and his reply was “these things happen”. I also asked if the amd caused it. His reply “maybe”. I am booked to see another opthamolagist. Looking for better answers than that.

Good for you, he sounds totally incompetent and lazy - you can do without that! Let us know how you get on with the replacement ophthalmologist. Good luck.

Totally agree..get z second opinion with an opthamologists who cares ..

i have a vitreous gel pulling at the moment ,my opthamologist says it usually and normally happens as we age, ...i had scarrng in left eye, i was told it happens with to many injections, so consultant stopped the injections with no warning..i was devastated as i only had inj 8-12 weeks apart for 3 years, not a caring man either , moved to a different consultant who is very good, hecexplains everything ..been with him 6 yrs (had AMD for 9 yrs now) still having inj in right eye with no scarring ....wishing you good luck, hope you find a good one xx

it’s probably of no importance hence their remark. It does not mean they are incompetent they are giving their honest opinion would you have preferred he make something up or be truthful. These things can happen and when they do there is not always an easy answer. The next Ophthalmologist may give the same remark.

I also have scarring in my left eye and the surgeon refused to do the 11th injection until the consultant looked at it. He stopped the injections as he said they were doing more harm than good. Myself I think the scarring happened on my 10th injection as it was so painful I nearly fell off the table, to which the surgeon apologised. He was a different surgeon to the one who refused to do the 11th injection. My consultant has signed me off saying he can't do anymore for me and to go back when the right eye starts causing problems in about 5 years!! So good luck to you Blindbasset I hope you get the right answers.

Thanks for your reply. How is your sight in the eye now without injections

It hasn't seemed to have changed but it could be me getting used to the gradual change. That said I am pleased not to have the injections as they really did't seem to do any good.

Do you know where the scarring is, on the pupil or back in the retina? I have a detached vitreous and am paying attention here. I know this might be callous but my dog just had a pupil scar and they put a contact on the eye and antiboitic drops to heal it. That is getting better.

Not sure where on my eye the scar is. Really hoping it can be healed.

about 9 years ago i had cataract surgery .The first eye seemed to take ages and when i went back the surgeon just said, OH dear .I cannot see straight ahead so now partially blind in that eye .After a year i had the other eye done thank god that went ok .I was all for making a claim but seems i signed the paper for consent ,though to be honest i couldn't read it the nurse did that . Now i have to use eye drops in my good eye daily .I don't think there is much they can do for your eye, now that it is scared

I had a series of 10 Lucentis injections in my left eye in 2022. During 2023, my vision in that eye started blurring and I had various follow up tests and investigations but nothing specific was found.

The consultant eventually concluded that it was probably scarring of some sort, that nothing more could be done and that I basically had to live with it. Which I’ve been doing.

It’s quite an inconvenience, I have to say, but I suppose the alternative (if I hadn’t had the course of injections) of completely losing my sight, is more alarming than having to manage blurred sight.

This won’t be what you want to hear, I realise (it wasn’t what I wanted!) but I hope you manage to live with it.

And if you find a solution, please share!
