I am due to have my lucentis injection tomorrow (right eye WMD, left dry MD). I also have the symptoms of a UTI. I get them regularly due a kidney disease I have.
I'll tell the hospital of course, and see my GP, but I wondered if anyone had any experience of turning up with a systemic infection, and whether or not the staff were happy to carry out the procedure?
I would be sad to miss the shot, its been a good few weeks since the last one, and I travel a long distance. I am prescribed a 'rescue' antibiotic by my GP if I get an infection when away. Not sure if I should start it or not.
Thanks in advance for any replies,
Sian

Hi Sianana. You could try ringing the consultant's secretary before you leave home for your injection (depending on what your appointment time is of course) as I'm sure she would know or maybe the switchboard at the hospital/clinic - they could maybe put you through to someone who would know. The Macular Society Helpline may be able to help also:

Good luck, I hope you're able to find out.
Just a quick thought, you could also try your optician as he/she may know also.
Hello, I know this is a late reply - I hope you got your answer and had your injection. My experience was with a severely infected dental implant. I'd had 2 teeth removed and a titanium post placed the week before an injection was due. I was put on antibiotics. At my eye appointment, the eye doctor was totally unconcerned and said it had no effect on my eye care, exam and Lucentis injection. I also got the same from my oral surgeon - that the eye injection treatment and medication would have no interaction with my dental implant care, placement and infection treatment. So I have proceeded with all care with both the oral surgeon and the eye doctor - I do verbally update each about current care at my appointments. Best wishes! Linda
Thanks Linda! That's really interesting. Unfortunately in my case they decided they didn't want to proceed if there was a chance there was a systemic infection, whether or not it was unrelated, and whether or not I was on antibiotics. That seemed very cautious to me, but not much I could do really. My next appointment is two weeks from now.
