I’m 48 and have had high myopia for most of my life. I m currently -12 prescription and have been vigilant with my eyes for most of my eyes- mainly looking out for signs of retinal tears. However last week had a macula bleed in my left eye. I’ve been referred urgently to the retinal specialists by my optician. I’m currently unsure what to expect or what questions I need to ask. Any pointers or advice gratefully received. Thank you very much

Hi there I am sorry to hear that I am also -12 bilaterally although the left eye is just balanced. I think the advice is don’t lift anything heavy also is your BP ok?
Hello thanks for getting back to me. Yes blood pressure has always been good. I am being treated for high cholesterol though but currently taking a break from statins. Not sure what the recommendation is re statins and macular bleeds. It seems mixed.
Please see a retinologist, a specialist ophthalmologist. He will do two types of retinal scan- an OCT and to see the structure of the vessels an OCTA scan. Some centres do not have the necessary equipment to diagnose accurately.I have had over 40 intravitreal injections of Eyelea and my vision is stable just below driving level. I was also high myopic.
Good wishes and hoping you find the right contacts. Andrea
Thanks almd Can I ask did you have the same thing? I m not sure of a diagnosis currently but myoptician is thinking myopic maculopathy but referring to the wet amd clinic. googling MM is hard as outcomes are v poor.
Hi, sorry to hear this , I’m -10 in both eyes and had bleed in left eye about 5 years ago and was diagnosed with myopic CNV. I noticed distortion when I was driving, I thought it was my contact lens was dirty at first. I just woke up one morning with it , so quick how it all started. Straight away optician sent me to hospital where I had OCT scan and they started me on Lucentis injections. After the first injection I noticed improvement. To date I’ve had 29 Lucentis in the left and now started on Eylea to see if I can get longer between injections.
Hi - I am same as you -12, bleed in left eye and 45. Bleed showed up last year with visual distortion. I had 3 eyelea injections a month apart ending July and almost all the distortion is gone. I have not had anymore since then touch wood, although I remain paranoid about it. I also have a history of retina detachments in both eyes. I take eye vitamins and stopped doing yoga.
