Hallo everyone I have dry AMD in both eyes but worse in my Good, right eye which has PED (explained to me recently) . I am also a glaucoma suspect and on Monopost and Cosopt eye Drops. I attended the AMD clinic for the first time last week. I am petrified of losing my sight because of both conditions. The wavy lines I see seem to be made worse when I wear my varifocal glasses. I occcasionally wear contact's which the clinic say are safe. What glasses do people wear and how do you deal with this stress? I am struggling. Thank you.

Bifocals glasses
Morning Ethel, have you thought about some free counselling from Macular Society for helping with distress? I’ve different issues around uncertainty but found it very helpful. Getting good information too...again Mac Soc can point you in right direction and identifying worries.. and speaking with medic team whenever you notice a change quickly...Thank you for being brave enough to share
Dear EtherPledge94,
When your sight is relatively good, you can generally manage with varifocals or bifocals if preferred. However, if there is any more impact to sight, then generally single vision lenses are preferable; separate for close up and distance vision.
We have a team of qualified counsellors who have extensive experience either personally or professionally within the field of sight loss. macularsociety.org/static-f...
Please contact us if you would like to discuss this further.
The Macular Society Advice and Information Service is open 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday on 0300 3030 111. Alternatively, you can contact us via: help@macularsociety.org
Kind regards,
Carol
Hello Ethel, I wrote my reply yesterday pressed the wrong key, deleted the message. Oops. Try again.I had bifocal until I could not see the edge of the pavement, so busy looking for it nearly got knocked down 3 times. Distance, reading and computer. I nearly fell of the chair when told the price, £750. Designers bought on line {cheaper} for distance, the other 2 whatever you like to wear. All have metal frames, The price has gone down by £400. I now have 9 frames, take 3 pair to opticians for eye test. Take care.
I have permanently fitted lenses since cataract surgery, which reduce my short sight, but I wear varifocals more or less full time, and find they are good for most things, such as housework, shopping, life in general. However I do wear reading glasses if I am settling down to do close work, and a cheap pair of single vision reading specs if I am sitting at my computer monitor for a long time, as I find it useful to have my whole field of vision (such as it is) in use, and not to have to keep adjusting. IBefore surgery there was a lot of variation in the varifocals, as my myopia prescription was about -9 and I don't think I could cope with that extreme transition now, but the total range of my current varifocals is much less and they are fine.
