The biggest issue i have is with sun light. It is not my friend at all. And all the sun glasses I have tied do not seem strong enough. Does anyone know the best place for ones that are suitable for us? Thanks

Where can i find suitable sun glasses

Good Afternoon Westhamott2020,
It sounds like your could be having an issue with glare. Those with a macular related condition tend to develop a heightened sensitivity to glare. The glare is produced by the blue light in the spectrum. Anti-Glare glasses can be used to limit glare without darkening their surroundings. Anti-glare glasses come in a variety of styles of frames; however, fit-overs are handy when someone already wears spectacles.
In terms of colour choice, as an indication, e.g. yellow anti-glare fit-overs are generally good for indoor use as they do not reduce the amount of light coming in; reduce glare, increase contrast and definition. They are also suitable for outdoor use on a dull day when glare may still be an issue, but there is not adequate natural light to wear a darker shade. On a brighter day out an orange pair of fit-overs may be advisable, followed by an amber pair on a very bright day out.
You can get some from the RNIB:

I have reactive prescription specs that darken when I'm outdoors or even in the car if there's strong light. Been very happy with them ( got mine from Asda) they darken when I dont even realise it's bright and lighten up very quickly once indoors etc again without any noticeable delay. - cant tell they're dark as everything's still light to see.

I used to have them and really good but expensive and now I don’t need distance glasses just reading. Wonder if I can get reactolite without prescription?
Well hubby used to have one plain lens in his specs, both lens reactolite. Can't hurt to ask eh?

Thanks !
I have found 'Eagle Eyes' excellent in strong sunlight. You can get them from Amazon. Not expensive.
I have wet aMD in one eye and dry in the other. After extensive research I discovered Norville lenses which have Melanin lenses which have various strengths and tints, depending on your requirements and are specifically designed for AMD. They significantly reduce glare without distortion. They are only available through some opticians but do have a useful website with graphs showing specifications and tints. have worn these for six years and not had any problems with the lenses which can be upgraded as required. I hope this helps.
I wear this: Yodo Fit Over Glasses Sunglasses with Polarized Lenses for Men and Women amazon.com/dp/B01M07GYMC/re...
So far my favorite. It is light and also fit over my glasses comfortably.
Glad you asked 👍 I have a huge problem with glare...I've read the replies which are a great help ..thank you
I find wearing a visor a huge help together with fit overs, actually mine are ordinary sunglasses from Waitrose but they fit well over my specs. I often find I only need the visor £9 from M&S.
I have transitional lenses (ie they go dark with any UV light from the sky, sometimes surprisingly so when there's no direct sunlight, just glare). I wear these over them when the sun is really bright, or when I'm driving. The combination is excellent. They are a dark amber colour which is very restful.
Becky’s advice is good but my own experience is that I prefer polarising lenses to reactive ones or others that are merely dark, polarising lenses cut out more glare
I also found reactive lenses a nuisance as they Chang back too slowly to suit me
A good optician can supply non- prescription sunglasses
I also find a hat with a brim to shade my eyes very helpful
Hi! Yup I have a couple of recommendations:
Check out Amazon.com and search for Cocoons or click this,
AND Zenni optical or click this;
I have BOTH cocoons and prescription sunglasses from Zenni.
I have wet and dry AMD I get Lucentis shots and I changed my diet to an ANTI-Inflammatory
KETO based diet.
I also take vitamins and supplements...AMD 6 years.
Great glasses, I esp like the cocoons esp since there is above and side covers to help block extraneous light intrusion. I also wear a cap.
Hang in there!
Holly
