A few people have kindly helped with shopping. Nobody seems eager to take cash. To put someone on my account as payee, I have to use a card reader. It is impossible for me to see the tiny screen and what it says. The mobile app for NatWest, says you can pay someone new without a card reader. I have failed miserably to do this. Does anyone have any tips that might help? Xx

I’m a Barclays customer but I have phoned them and they will add new payees for you and you can just ask them to make the payment at the same time if you want to. I’m sure that Nat west do the same.

Hi Bobbie915

I have used internet banking for years and it’s relatively easy to add a new payee once you’ve got the hang of it

My husband is with the NatWest, like you

On your main screen you’ll find your account details. Select the account you want to pay from then select “Payments” from drop down menu.

In the next menu select “Make a Payment”. You will see To: Select Payee so select that. You then get a further menu and at the top it says ”Pay someone new”. Select that, click continue and you can then enter the details of person you want to add. When you’ve done that press “Verify Payee” and the bank will do a quick check. Once the bank has verified it you can then make the payment.

Any problems please get back to me.

Thanks TwasBrillig. I normally use desktop or laptop for NatWest banking and you have to use the card reader to put in a new payee, no option for paying someone not on your list - unless you use the mobile app. I was using the app on my iPad, its bigger to see than the phone. I didn't realise that a code is sent on the phone to complete the payment. The phone wasn't nearby and I did;t realise a text had been sent. I suppose the App is really meant for using on the phone and most people probably would not have a problem seeing. When my OH managed to do it last night using the phone, I realised why it didn't work for me. Still learning something new every day. Bobbie x

Sorry, didn’t realise NatWest did a phone call as husband has never had to do this. I’m with Lloyd’s and I always get an automated call when setting up a new payee. I don’t use the Lloyds’ app but put Lloyd’s in search engine, select personal and go on from there. There is absolutely no way I could comfortably do this on a phone as it’s way too small to read and using phone’s magnification setting would mean scrolling. So I use iPad to do internet banking and have phone nearby to verify code.
