just had my first injection, no warning, just went in for a test and was told I was having an injection straight away! I was given Ongavia, never heard of it before. The procedure was perfect, no pain, redness or discomfort, just a slight gritty feeling a few hours later.
my problem is when can I wash my hair? I would have done it before if I’d known!! Any other tips for a newbie?

Hi Eyecloud. I've been having injections since 2018 and I was always told to be careful when washing my face and hair not to get any shampoo etc near my eye for five days. It seems now that this had changed to two days but I think I'll continue as I have for the last five years. I'm so glad to hear you had a perfect procedure and hope it continues along those lines. I've never heard of Ongavia either, another new one maybe. All the best and let us know how you get on with your next one.
Ongavia® (ranibizumab), a biosimilar to Lucentis®. Biosimilars increase access to medications at potentially lower costs. Having biosimilar medications available means more people can be helped. They can't be called generic because they are created from living cells so the product is not identical to the original, but "similar" biologically.
I wear a towelling headband to help stop drips down face whilst washing hair no sooner than 3 days after injection. Dry shampoo is also useful if desperate.Ongavia = Ranibizumab - is an anti vegf.
I have just made a video about having eye injections I am told a week of no hair washing Or Swimming and that’s what I said on the video especially as no one gets any anti biotic eye drops anymore . Well done you on getting your first injection it will be the first of 3 loading injections I expect 4 weeks apart.
Hello Eyecloud, well done on getting your first one out of the way, it is always best not to wash your hair for a few days, as it is important not to get water in the injected eye, avoiding infection is of high priority in that regard. I am now down to injections at four monthly intervals, having had them for a few years now, so hopefully in time you will progress well. Best wishes.
wow! I’m so glad I saw this post. I have never been given any advice about washing my hair and I have had 10 injections of Eyelea. I presume it’s the same advice for this treatment too?
Been having injections for three years and never heard of the restrictions on washing your hair after a jag. Good job always wash it before I go. Sounds like a really good painless injection experience. All the best for future treatment.
