Went for checkup of my wetamd. Doc said it was stable enough to not need a jab this time. Hooray BUT ....I now have glaucoma. Gave me pills and drops but I will now need to go to glaucoma clinic as well as macular clinic.I am so depressed with it all. Has anyone else had both these? What can I expect?

Hi patjo,
I have brvo and got raised iop ( which causes glaucoma) from the lucentis inj. That was over 3 years ago and the drops they put me on ( timolol) have worked fine. I would imagine they will work for you too.
It doesnt feel good to have more than one eye condition but it seems the glaucoma is well treated. Good luck going forwards.
Thanks for your reply. I feel better for it.
Hi there Patjo.
I feel your pain. Just before Xmas I had a Macular review and things were stable. My consultant then told me he was concerned I had the beginnings of glaucoma and I am currently waiting for a letter to attend the glaucoma clinic for further tests. It's another blow isn't it.
I am myopic and have been told that I am at higher risk of all the age related eye problems even though I am only 54. Also was told I have the start of cataracts.
I think there are several of us on this site with the same issues. I guess the only comfort is you are not alone and glaucoma is apparently easier to treat than macular problems. I was shocked when I first heard the news, but like everything else we have to deal with in life, you adapt.
My best wishes to you.
Thanks for your reply. I wonder if our macular injections have anything to do with developing glaucoma. I asked the doctor and she said no, but I am not convinced because I have always had perfect eyesight and have no family members with glaucoma, so don't really fit into any vulnerable categories.Love you guys on this forum. You always make things feel more bearable. Xx
That hadnt occurred to me Patjo but I am now thinking it's possible. I haven't got any family members with glaucoma either. I guess this treatment we are all receiving is relatively new and we will only be learning about the long term side effects over the next few years. One thing for sure is that we will have to suffer any side effects because we have to have the injections. It's our only option at present.
I agree with you. It's good we can support each other on this forum. Take care and good luck with the drops and glaucoma clinic visits. I've a horrible feeling I will end up doing the same in a few weeks. 2468G
Been doig some delving on the net. Research hasbeen done on this but there is no conclusive proof of any connection.so that theory bites the dust
Guys, rnib says glaucoma is damage to optic nerve due to " increased pressure of fluid in the eye".
Lucentis' own website says " some people develop serious side effects..... including raised eye pressure ".
As I read it ( their webpage) that's over and above the possible temporary raised iop that can happen within an hour of inj that they mention earlier on the site. I believe its the same for all antivegf inj. as Eyelea's webpage says the same regarding those having had multiple inj, but we are unlucky statistically speaking.
Hi eyesright
I didn't know the injections could raise pressure. So much to learn still on this subject. Thanks for your research.
My wife gets an Eylea injection in one eye for WMD. After the injection, the doctor checks to be sure the eye pressure is not above what should be only a slightly raised eye pressure after the injection. After 8 Eylea injections, only one time did the doctor relieve the eye pressure before she left the office. So I guess overly high pressure can happen after injections.
Hi I too at 55 have wet amd plus chronic csr plus catarrats and have also been referred to the glaucoma clinic no appointment yet. It's very disheartening but at least we are getting great treatment. Regards Mandy White
Hi Mandy.
I'm 54. It seems if we start with macular issues at a young age, we get many other issues. As you say we get great treatment which we are grateful for.
It seems that I am in this same group, high myope, G.A. now wet and on injections, early cataracts and getting over the devastation of when it all went sickeningly distorted to more accepting state of what will be and thankful for the magic of Lucentis.
My first injection went well with good results, I was just a little freaked out when the liquid went in and the second time I was hell bent on keeping my eye to the right and experienced a momentary "going away" it must have been momentary because when i "came back" it was to realise the needle was still in.
Ive one more to go, in this first series, has anybody else out there experienced this out of mind moment?
A lot of us are myopic. I had no idea when I was younger that it would lead to all these problems. Thought it merely an inconvenience.
I haven't had the 'going away' that you describe. I am always in a state of controlled panic. I think the trauma of the situation will be the cause of this happening to you. It is stressful even though it is over very quickly. It must have been literally seconds as the needle isn't in a long time.
Best of luck for next time.
I had glaucoma with slight vision loss in left eye for 15 years , successfully treated with eye drops , then in September last year suddenly developed Wet Amd in right eye .. my good eye !! .. as I said to my consultant , ‘that’s not fair !! ‘’ . .. so drops in one , injections in the other and currently stable .. so glad for each new day and the fact that treatments are available .. keep smiling. X
Hi there I have DMO similar to AMD but a diabetic condition OH-ocular hypertension and take 2 different drops for this, double vision- left eye now patched so don’t see from that one, ptosis - drooping eye lids and cateracts and 2 weeks ago diagnosed with Ocular Myasthenia ( tabs every 4 hours ) also type 1 diabetes, so know how hard life can be, lost job and driving licence, still have my faith, family and friends which helps a lot. Wishing you the very best.
Best to ask the clinic. It probably beats losing the use of the eye
So sorry Patio to hear you are dealing with another eye issue on top of everything else ..am 56 and do have many problems with my eyes (dry myopic macular ,ctaracts, cornea graphs both eyes . etc) not that well for the last 2 and half years as my good eye and cornea graph isn t good any more can t keep lense for too long ...its such a challenge eyes are so important to have quality of life ...trying to stay positive it's a challenge for me too and defo has affected me ...guess it depends a lot how much support you have around you ...one day at the time trying to find something that keeps me going ...wishing you all the best ..hope docs will be able to help you x ...

Kind regards,
I have had Glaucoma since I was 45 and am now in my 65th year and wet amd in both eyes for the last 2.5 yrs. Do not lose hope. I take drops nightly to control the Glaucoma and get checked every 6 months. Saw my RS yesterday to see if I needed another Eylea shot and it looks stable so I haven't a shot now since Sept. so I am quite happy about that. Going for Cataract surgery on my right eye Mar. 20 and hoping all goes well with that. I now it's hard, but try to stay positive, you are not alone. Thinking of you.
