Help! After my lucentis injection I saw the usual black and white dot and bubbles . It’s 3 weeks and the white and black dot is still in my vision! It throws me off Balance after a while. It’s annoying and I don’t know how to get rid of it! Please help anyone! I’m 57 and I don’t want to get anymore shots!

Hi, ring your clinic for advice. I've never had it last so long but they can reassure you or take action if its some thing else.

Me neither! It’s so annoying and upsetting ! It’s not a floater because I saw the dot immediately after and it’s in the same spot

Definitely call the clinic for advice.

An air bubble normally absorbs within 36hrs.

There have been instances, usually confined to the USA where the wrong syringes designed for diabetics have been used. These have silicone oil lubricant contamination which can cause permanent floaters but, I have not heard of their use here. It could only happen if the Lucentis was extracted from a bulk pack rather than a single shot one.

Occasionally, I experience a tiny intense black dot which persists but it does not really distract and sounds v different to your experience.

I got a silicone bubble from such a syringe, here in the States - with an Avastin shot. It finally (after months of annoying me by floating around in my field of vision) floated up out of my field of vision.

One can get all the vitreous removed from the eye with surgery that will take such a bubble out with it. They replace the vitreous with a sort of salty liquid I believe. I found the prospect of surgery off putting. Cher's bubble may float up out of sight eventually as did mine - if indeed it is such a bubble in her case.

I gather that there is legal action ongoing in the USA in respect of clinics who used cheap syringes intended for diabetics.

Interestingly, air bubbles appear to us at the bottom of the eye but they are in fact at the top. We see them wrong way up because they are behind the lens.

That is interesting. Thanks. And, yes I hear of "legal action" as a possibility, but I don't put much faith in it actually amounting to anything. The same syringes are still in use for Avastin every day - to the best of my knowledge.

I believe the syringes come with the medication

In England?

Sorry, In the United States. But he also said sometimes they pick up a bit of silicone lubricant off the dosage bottle. Because I have one of those annoying things in my eye.

enopmar We discussed this about a year ago. At that time I enquired at my clinic which carries out several hundred injections per week and they were astonished. They had not heard of any syringes with silicone lubricant being used in the UK.

Are you going back for a follow up in a weeks time? After an injection I always have an appointment 4 weeks later.

in reply to tallyho

After an injection I go back 4 weeks later for another one, have done almost every month for the last 8yrs. 😀

The clinic will have told you it goes after 24 hours. It hasn't so you should go back to the clinic and have it checked. Steven
