Cataract op done. All ok

Quick update. Painless just a bit of discomfort. Anaesthetic drops topped up 3/4 way thru. Wearing dark sunspecs as bright light uncomfortable but that will pass. Can see clearer already. Hadn't realized.how bad cataract was lol. Resting now watching tv. Will update again more Info in few days x

Hi Eyesright, so pleased to hear the cataract op went well. I remember how bright everything was. Unless it is a very dull day, I still don't step outside without my sun glasses, as it still hurts my eyes. I thought the prescription lenses were great, I could even read without specs. Unfortunately, for me it was quickly followed by wet AMD. Best wishes and hugs. x x

So glad for you that everything went well. Enjoy your moment of leisure! Hope you don't follow Bobbie's experience of developing wet AMD. It seems quite a common occurrence that one intervention is followed by another problem, but I am asking myself: was the eye on the brink of going that way anyway and just needed the trigger? Anyway, hope that won't happen in your case. Keep us up to date. Best wishes and a big hug.

My suspicion is that the link to wet md is probably just that our eyes have aged to the point where things go wrong. One reason I am having mine done quite early is to lower intraocular pressure, the cataract operation will lower pressure a bit but apparently it’s best to have the cataract op done first and the actual pressure reduction op done second

The only thing I’m concerned about is that if my myopia is corrected, I may not easily be able to see close up, at the moment I take my specs off and hold my phone up to my nose

I have early stages of cataracts but won't be treated for a while.

I always bear in mind that if my wife’s aunt could have both eyes done at age 98 and now at 107 reads without specs I ought to be able to whack it!!

Hi eyesright, I am glad the cataract op was successful for you and that you are seeing much better. My doc refuses to do mine because he said it could worsen the WMD that I have. He did say I had mild cataracts buy my eyesight is getting cloudy. I should have had it done a few years ago before I developed the Macular problem.

Hi all, jus to say thanks for your good wishes. I have to wait 6 weeks to get new reading specs so typing is hard lol. I will post again once got specs but every thing is great. Distance vision fab! cant believe it but procedure was easier than any of my inj and no pain or irritation after. Review 27/11 will also check oedema from last ozurdex implant but it seems good to me. Thanks again, and best wishes to everyone x

Ir's very good to know your cataract op went well. It's a comfort to hear the success stories because my husband (aged 81) is due to have his done in a fortnight and it's one less thing for me to worry about. I'm focussing on him just now because of some kind of heart condition that needs investigation. As for me, no AMD review till February - just those pesky injections. Keep warm and comfortable.

Thanks Beldie x the hardest thing will be you telling him to rest! I felt so good. Like not had anything done to eye at all. The 4x day antibiotic drops are the thing to make sure he does.

A tip of he needs specs to read - you have to wait 6 weeks before getting eyes tested so if he's like me he won't be able to read easily ( I took one lens out of mine which lets me drive but no good close up).. I bought Adlens adjustable specs online £30 and they allow me to read paper books ( any screen still blurry) - saved my sanity! They won't suit everyone of course and the ' reading window' is quite small but does the job.
