Hi everyone, just struggling with a severe cough probably bronchitis, noticed my eyesight has gone worse and not due for my appointment until the 20th September I am not in the U.K. at the moment either so not feeling up to travelling back yet.?
Also considering buying wrap around sunglasses but have been told that they can’t have a prescription put in them.

Hello Annsandra
As I see it, it is quite possible get a bleed from harsh coughing if you had bleeds in your retina before. If you are treated for fluid leakage it is perhaps less likely but still possible. Remember that the new blood vessels are very fragile and brittle and break easily. Check your eyes twice a day and if you notice any more deterioration in your sight be prepared to come home so that you can have it checked out. I would advise you not to take any risks.
As for wrap-around sunglasses, you can have them made with your prescription details, but at a very high cost. Normal wrap-arounds or over-glasses can be worn over your existing specs. I got mine from a local charity-run "Impaired Vision" concern for £10. They are very useful. They come in different shades. Mine are very dark. The only drawback is I cannot use them over light-reactive specs as it makes things too dark. The lighter shades would be better in that case or wear non-reactive specs.
Hope your cough gets better soon and that your eye sight does not get worse.
Thank you for your reply so quickly, yes I am worried and will try and keep a check on the eyesight. It’s so hard to judge and each day seems different but I don’t think anything has improved with my 3 loaded injections but will find out on the 20th.
The sunlight is such a problem despite having all the different glasses.
I would like to have wrap round prescription glasses but will ask the consultant when I see him. My eyesight was quite poor before being diagnosed and I have cataracts building. It’s difficult coming to terms too as trying to not let it change me too much.
You are always so thoughtful thankyou again for your advice.
I know it can be hard to come to terms with any degree of loss of vision when all sorts of imaginings come into your head. I know - i have been there. Be kind to yourself. Think of all the good things in your life. Enjoy every moment; live today. Tomorrow is another day. And do not worry too much about the cataracts; they can be dealt with if and when it becomes necessary.
By the way, the over-glasses are really very good because, unlike ordinary sunglasses, they cover the top and sides as well so that no sunlight can seep in around the edges. Try them.
Meanwhile - chin up. Don't allow your eye condition to put your life on hold. And if you want to talk about it, we are always here to support you.
Such wise words, I am trying hard not to let the condition define me at all, I am positive and will come to terms I am sure. I have ordered some nice tortoise shell over glasses now, to go with my other 3 pairs.
Will try and find time to be kind sadly my Mum is really poorly at the moment so spending a lot of time with her.
I hope you are doing well. How long is it since you have been diagnosed. I hope you have seen some improvement,
Hi Ann. So sorry to hear about your mum. Life is never straightforward, is it! Obviously, you want to do the best for your mum, but don't forget yourself.
i was diagnosed with wet AMD in one eye, dry in the other, just over 2 years ago. There have been ups and downs during that time - improvements sometimes and moments of panic. It is usually a roller-coaster ride. At the moment the left eye is worse than it has ever been, but I will come out at the other end - we always do so we have to tell ourselves. I even managed to lead an 8 mile walk over rough terrain the day after the last injection. So you see, life goes on. It is what you make it!
Thankyou Ayayay, you are certainly a very special lady I feel, your 2 year journey sounds full of ups and downs but you sound very grounded and positive.
I totally agree with you about living our lives to the full.
Well done on leading the 8 mile walk just brilliant.
