Black ring after injection

Hi everyone,

I was diagnosed with WMD 2 months ago. I'm 53 with very high myopia -16 in my left eye and -18.5 in my right. I had two injections so far, going for my 3rd one in two weeks. Afterwards Dr. wants to perform the scan where they inject the dye to see if the leakage has stopped. Before the 1st injection the distortion was so bad that would make me dizzy and upset stomach. I'm a financial controller which dealing with numbers is my entire job.

After the 1st injection I noticed a tremendous improvement in the distortion, which made me feel positive. I also didn't experience any pain or side effects. The vision also improved. With my 2nd injection had no pain either but had this annoying circle-ring looking thing moving around in my eye. Sometimes I see it sometimes I don't. I was told that it could be air bubbles and it would disappear in a few days after the injection, but it's now over 2 weeks and it's still there. I was also hoping the remaining distortion would disappear but it hasn't :( thank God it's the spot on the outside of the vision so I can function in my job where looking at Excel spreadsheet is a daily thing.

Should I expect that with more injections it will get better? I'm afraid of the 3rd injection, if I get more bubbles. As anyone had the bubbles disappearing at a later stage. I'm sorry for the long post.

Warm Regards,

Izzy

Hi izzybara, unfortunately everyone is different. You may get more improvement, lots do, you may not. It's a waiting game. The inj are more about stabilising the eye so it doesn't get worse.

Usually the bubbles go. I think two weeks was my longest and they slowly got smaller. I've heard of people having bubble issues with avastin due to silicone but that's not an issue with others as they come prepacked. My Dr said black bubble was inj fluid before it's absorbed so yours may just be in a place you can see it ? What does your clinic say?

If the black circle is there after two weeks it's very likely to be a small bubble of silicon oil that is used to lubricate the hypodermic needle used for the injections. I still have one after 3 injections; just got it after the first one but none after the other two injections. It's possible to retrieve it with a simple operation with a very fine tube which sucks it out but I'd rather live with mine. They do have alternative needles for injections which don't cause these problems.

Hi, sometimes I get black spots after injections, which usually go with time.

Hopefully the injections will, help with sight improvement. When I first started injections three years ago, I had 3 Lucentis injections a month apart and they greatly improved my vision. Now had injection 13. Having changed to eyelea and a week after the injection my sight is lousy, like a grey film over the whole eye, which I'm hoping will soon improve. It is full,of ups and downs, but we have to keep going on and staying positive.

Best wishes to you.xx

Izzybara Are you in the UK? Silicone lubricated syringes are not used here. In fact, they should not be used anywhere, they are intended for use by diabetics for insulin injections. The silicone is to ease the discomfort because diabetics need so many injections.

In the USA I gather that there is a substantial Class Action case being prepared relating to the use of the wrong syringes.
