Hi, I was told that if I had any changes on the Amsler grid I had to go to optician or A and E if Optician is closed. Hope it turns out to be nothing too much to worry about but I think it's probably better to be safe X

yes- go to your nearest Eye A and E , the sooner you get treatment the less harm is done

Don't worry but do go to a&e. It's better you potentially waste 15 mins of their time than suffer irreparable damage however slight. Be sure to tell them you have amd.

Best wishes x

Dear nanapat112,

In terms of Amsler grid use, If there are any changes from one week to the next, then this indicates that you must get your eyes checked in case wet AMD is developing. As others have stated above, it is important that you err on the side of caution and react on the change that you have identified.

10-15% of people with the dry type go on to develop wet AMD in the same eye. Therefore it is important that if an individual does notice any sudden eye changes, that they act rapidly and go to the optometrist so that they can check behind their eyes. Alternately, they can attend the emergency eye clinic usually located within the hospital.

If the optometrist identifies possible wet AMD, then the Royal College of Ophthalmology guidelines indicate that they must do a fast track referral on the day of the appointment, via fax or email, straight through to the eye clinic, so that the individual can be seen and treated by 2 weeks. This therefore indicates the urgency of the situation. Treatment is usually via injection.

Just to make you aware, we are currently offering free 6 month membership. This is a good way to keep up with current developments. Please ring us if you would like to benefit from this, or join via the following link:

Thank you all for your help. I visited my opticians who looked at my eyes, she said there was little change. She faxed the hospital who rang me and gave me an appointment for 1 months time, I suppose it is not urgent. I look at the chart every day it is not getting worse, if it does I shall go to the hospital.

I will keep you informed of the result.

Bye for now .Nana pat.

Just to update you all. I wen't to hospital today. the Dr said they don't worry about the slight changes I saw on the Amsler chart.[ just keep an eye on it.] Forgive the pun.] So there is no need to panic if the changes are only slight. Thank you all for your advice.
