I went to my optician, tried to explain. She examined me thoroughly, but didn't tell me anything. My new glasses don't help at all. I have to shade my eyes to see sometimes. It's all come on quite suddenly.
I looked on the internet, and am horrified to find I've probably got MD.
I 've insisted on going back to the optician. Why didn't she take my symptoms more seriously?

It is difficult to self diagnose any eye condition, but you are best placed to notice that there is a change in your vision which needs to be investigated.
I hope that your optician can get to the bottom of this; if you are not satisfied, try another optician for a second opinion.
Best wishes

Hi, if the problem worsens whilst you're waiting for an appt I suggest you go to a&e - don't take any chances.
If you get no joy with your optician ask your GP to refer you to an eye hospital.
As has been said don't try to self diagnose however tempting it may be.
I don't know where you're located, but Boots in Watford were very good in alerting me to a probable macula problem. The optician advised me to go straight to Moorefields' Accident and Emergency. department.
When the Boots optician said I should go to Moorfields Accident and Emergency, I said 'OK - I'll go tomorrow'. He then said quite firmly 'No - go today'.
when i first noticed distortion i saw optician next day and she faxed eye clinic ...i had letter to attend in 4 days .....dont leave it ...get to another optician asap....xxxx
Seeing optician in 3 days time. I will insist that she faxes to ophthalmologist. Even when I phoned receptionist (a week ago) re my distortion, blob etc. she seemed supremely unfazed and only gave me this appmt, no special rush. I'd been examined for new glasses about 3 weeks ago, and optician made no comment. I think I'll be changing my optician!!
