Injections painful
Dear molly0345,
I was sorry to read about your sister. Please suggest to her that she rings us on the helpline.
I am copying a link to our factsheet on Pain after injections:

Our helpline is open 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday on 0300 3030 111.
Kind regards,
Many thanks Rosalyn Have passed on your phone number to my sister and told her to get in touch, I have found out since last post that the injections that she was finding painful were Eyelea and not Lucentis which were the previous ones.
Hi had Lucentis injections in my right eye & occasionally bit painful. Then had to have Eyelea in left eye. Reason being that this was better than Lucentis.
I have had pain each injection with Eyelea so maybe because its a different medication, no idea from Doctors.
I had panic attacks years ago before the Lucentis injections but try to calm myself before I get to the Clinic & found that helps & do not get them now only the occasional 'butterfly with hobnail boots' as my Nan described the feeling. Maybe it is worrying about the injection & possible pain that triggers panic attacks.
Getting in touch with Macular Society will help for sure as they have helped most of us on here.
Hope it gets better for your sister & big hug for her 😊
I've had five of these injections so far no problems
May be you should contact the hospital that did the injections Al.Gee,
Hi Molly. Is it the actual inj or afterwards that's painful?
I had some inj that hurt. All different reasons - eye clamp pushed down too hard, injector too heavy handed keeping eye still (I concentrate hard now on not moving eye), sensitive eye needed more anaesthetic. Also some areas on eye seem to hurt others don't.
're pain afterwards -dry eye(if they can do it quick it's better plus my clinic now gives soothing drops after) , reaction to iodine (they can use other), sore after anaesthetic wears off if clamp pushed hard etc.
I think also ones emotional state affects how you suffer afterwards. Generally I would say the more you have the easier it gets. But even after 15 I still get the moment of panic in the last few seconds and really have to get a grip of myself ! Tell the nurses what hurt last time, hold their hand, don't beat yourself up about being a wuss, we are brave to go through it !!!!
Hope your sister has good luck going forward x
