I was just wondering how people cope with crvo. Do they continue to work? Do they qualify for unemployment? Or do they apply for social security disability? If one applets for social security disability, how would they have money coming in to pay bills till ssdi is approved?

Hi Chaddie,

Many people of working age do continue to work. That said, it does depend on the nature of your job and the extent of your sight loss.

I would recommend calling Action for Blind people's 'Action Employment line' 0800 440 2255 if you would like a chat about employment issues and any benefits which may be appropriate for your circumstances.

The Macular Society have a factsheet for people of working age with information and useful contacts on it. We can send it to you if you call our helpline 0300 30 30 111 (9.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday) or email us on help@macularsociety.org

We also have a network of support groups for working age people. Again, our helpline can locate your nearest one if you contact them with your address details.

Finally, our helpline have another factsheet which gives information about CRVO if you would like more information.

Best wishes
