CRVO and CATARACT OPERATION

Has anyone had a cataract operation in the same eye that you are having Eylea injections in. Also what are the signs that your cataract is getting worse? thank you.

I also have cataracts and having injections in one eye every 8-10 weeks. I asked the doctor that very question last week and he said that if I want to have cataract operation there would be no problem with the macular issue. I guess if your vision is getting worse, it could be a sign that the cataract is the culprit.

There should no ill effect from those having injections in the same eye as lens surgery. You would know if the cateracts were getting worse with increased glare and worsening vision and the fact that colours looked more faded. Hope that helps.

Hi Thelis, I don't have CRVO, but I am having Eylea injections for wet AMD and have been told twice (one ophthalmologist and one retina specialist) that I would have to wait until the AMD is under control ie, swelling gone, before I could consider cataract surgery. Perhaps that doesn't relate to vein occlusion.

I, too, am trying to figure out if my worsening vision is due to the cataract or the macular /retinal disease. The symptoms are similar.

Not Eyelea but Avastin injections. Had an injection in November, cataract op + fitting of a stent (drain) for glaucoma in December, next injection in February. No problem, apparently the cataract and injection combination is routine, though the stent is an extra. All 3 treatments have been a success, no interference from one to the other.

Yes I just had cataract surgery on both eyes with wet AMD. I had been stable for 6 months not needing an Eylea injection. One week after the first surgery I noticed my vision was a little worse. Turns out there was some swelling so had to have another injection and will get one this week. Vision was so bright and clear for about 2 weeks, it was like a whole new world. The last 2 weeks I see some bluriness which could be due to Drye Eye Syndrome. Will check with my RS on Tues. The surgery itself is only about 10 - 20 minutes. Good luck with your surgery.

I had a sudden bleed in my left eye in Dec. so started injections - then had cataract surgery in both eyes in March - done a week apart. Hard to distinguish between the blurriness from AMD and cataracts. Dr. said surgery would help and it did! Left eye has been getting worse in spite of injections for 3 years - so I stopped them 4 months ago and vision has remained the same! I kept having such horrible reactions after each needle I just decided to stop and see what happens!!

I have a cataract in each eye and have injections in both for wet macular...unfortunately fluid is not stabilising (after 5yrs)..I've been told I cant have cataract op until it does ..good luck to you xxxx

I have brvo left eye and steroid implant. Cataracts developed as side effect of the implant. Had the left eye done as it was the worse one and was affecting reviews of that eye ( dr would not commit to how much improvement i would see after op but it was fantastic!). Im not having other eye done until its absolutely necessary though due to the small risk of the op and its my " good" eye.
