I'm sorry, I have never heard of this happening in lupus.

Agree with MaggieS, this is certainly a new 1 on me. Is there anything in the leaflets of u're meds that note this as a potential side effect? Say maybe Hydroxy considering all the potential eye problems with that? I would double check that definitely. Maybe worth looking in2 cerebral lupus too just 2 b sure, but of course there's always the possibility of it having nothing at all 2 do with lupus. Do let us know what u find out.

It may have nothing to do with the lupus, but was just wondering. I have a hospital appointment on Friday , to rule out drug related lupus, will ask that doctor. I have been feeling exhausted all day.

I have always been colour blind for blues, purples, greens and yellows. Get them mixed up all the time. But never hearf of it being linked to lupus before xxx

The odd thing is it's only one eye.

My optician referred me to the hospital the same day, have had blood test, it maybe an infection behind the eye. Have not had results of blood test yet.

This is very strange. For a very long time one of my eyes has always shown me brighter colours than the other. I only really noticed it when I was putting on eye make-up so closing the affected eye. It was tricky not to put more eye shadow on one side than the other! With both eyes open the bright eye counteracted the less good eye. My brother is colour blind so I assumed it was genetic.

I developed Lupus in the late 1980s and was eventually put on Hydroxy and annual eye checks. I always found one picture in the colour-blind book a little difficult but otherwise everything was fine. Thankfully this was the only drug (apart from anti-inflammatories and pain relief) I've taken for Lupus and took it for more than 15 years until my symptoms greatly improved. There have been so many other things to worry about that I stopped noticing it and often only wear eye liner these days - and sometimes mascara but I've been tested as allergic to the preservative in it so have to be careful to keep to the end of lashes.

Then I saw the headline for your post. Thought I'd just do a little eye test to see if the problem was any worse. Oddly I can't see any colour perception difference between eyes now! I'm now wondering if the colour perception between eyes was either something to do with lupus developing or the drugs (I just can't remember for sure if I had it prior to the mid 80s.) Also, since nothing has been picked up in eye tests, I wonder if the cause is in the brain not the eye. Incidentally, general eye sight always OK - I didn't need glasses at all until I was in my 40s (I'm mid 50s now). I'm baffled!

Hi red tape,

I was worried to start with as my brother and 2 of my sister's have eye problems.

Check out the Ishihara test, it's the numbers in the coloured dots, my left eye I can read all the. Numbers but not one with my right eye. Still it's ok if it just stays as it is. At the moment the left is the dominant one, so that's all good.

Hi, millysue, how did it go with your eye test? I don't have issues with the colour difference between the eyes but I do have eye pain I the left eye and a change in visual perception, something like a film over my eye. But the ophtalmologist didn't find anything wrong. I'm looking into optic neuritis, which is the inflammation of the optic nerve. Is this something that your specialist mentioned to you as being the cause behind your colour issue?

Apologies for the delay in responding, I just saw this post.
