I will try that tomorrow. I applied for blue badge last year but didn't get it. The woman you see in kent is an occupational therapist. She said you need to be in wheel chair to get blue badge x

I don't think this is the case. My stepmother has severe arthritis and is over seventy and she gets dla

Thanks, will have to look again. Just made me angry listening to Osborne yesterday. He made it sound like people who never worked now gets loads of benefits and it is going to stop. I nursed all my life + bought up 5 kids, never claimed benefit and now I need help they take it all away lol x

I agree with you. I have worked from the age sixteen, even when I was studying I worked and paid tax and now that I need the help the goverment want to deny me that help.We should not have to fight for what is our entitlement, it is hard enough living with this illness, don't need the added stress. I agree that people who are perfectly healthy should work and not live a life on benfits, or have as many children as they want and expect the tax payer to foot the bill. however, we know that most of the money spent on benefits go towards subsidising low pay. Maybe if people were paid a living wage, they could actually live on and there was more support for mothers to return to work after having a child, there would be less claims for benefit and the benefit bill would decrease. But these goverments do not operate on common sense do they!

Just telephoned DLA and they have confirmed over 65 yrs can only claim AA. Possibly you stepmum claimed before she was 65 so continues to get it. I always seem to miss out xx

Pattismith, I salute you! I can't do full housework every weekend so one weekend I will Hoover and the next I will clean appliances. My other half is useless around the house so it is up to me. I need a cleaner!

Lesi profile image
Lesi

Thank you everyone for your help. My daughter has job to clean up after two children, and yes my husband is useless. Yes I also have a very lazy husband. If you can't see it there's nothing wrong. He has had hernia op recently, now he realise the pain I went through when I had hysterectomy 25 yrs ago. Poor men.

I keep downstairs clean but my own room is bad now I can hardly change my bedding and hovering is hard as I cannot brng the hoover up. if I do bring it upstairs I have no energy to push it. food prep is hard as I have really bad hands and arthritis in my knees and shoulder.

I got the lowest rate of care after appeal but £20 weekly does not really go far. I was so traumatised by the appeal in London and the outcome I am petrified of doing it again. I was very very poorly after. just writing this is making me cry and feel sick

pattismith profile image
pattismith in reply totintin49

Did you have any help with your appeal ? A wonderful gentleman from the CAB came to my house to help me fill in my first application for disability and because of his help l could answer the questions in detail, its so important to get the correct advice, give them a call . Good Luck , keep me posted of your progress . : )

Hi Lesi

You must claim for DLA well its PIP from now on i have had to battle for over the last 20 years and have been award it for life but thats not true as all people who are on DLA will have to reply for the PIP that comes into place this year its so frusterating as it was only sorted last May but i did get a letter saying they would not be in contact till 2015. so have some breathing space yet again. As for who ever told you that you have to have a wheel chair for a blue badge its rubbish i have a blue badge and i am not in a wheel chair. I have lupus , fibro, chronic obstructive airways , and hughs syndrome, and take over all 26 tablets a day,and life is a struggle but have to keep going i just do what i can , (not a lot) but my family understand, Anyway good luck.

keep well

Rachel

When I applied for blue badge last time I was told all this rubbish. There are places I like to go that are down steep hills and only parking by the theatre is disabled parking. I have told them on the form that is against my human rights dictating where I can and cannot go.

My consultant has also said I may have Hugh's syndrome. That will be checked at my next appointment xx

pattismith profile image
pattismith in reply torlupus

Agree with you , its disgusting, when people with a genuine disability ( visible or not ) dont seem to be able to get the correct help and advice , seems to be the lazy layabouts that get the best deal these days. Help is out there but you have to know where to look, Knowledge is POWER esp when you have a lifelong illness .

Re-cleaning. A friend of mine was going through a rough time financially and I said I would pay her to do a bit of cleaning for me, she comes once a week and does 1 room top to bottom, then the week after another room and so on. It helps her and me and neither of us stress so much. Is there any family or friends that would help in the same way or a friend who is finding funds low who would jump at the chance. I pay her £14. for two hours, but it would be up to you what you could afford. I don't drink and stopped smoking years ago, don't get out much and this is My treat for Me.xx

Hi, I very recently was awarded DLA, so yes it can be done! As for housework! I used to be a clean freak! Hubby always said I had OCD, although I didn't I do like things clean and tidy! However, now although I still like everywhere clean and tidy, I am not able to do it! If I ask my hubby to hoover, he will, he will do what ever I ask! However, I think he just does a rubbish job, so I dont ask him again!!!! (Tactics me thinks!!!!) I have had to learn, that I do not have to hoover and polished and mop floors everyday! I still get a great sense of achievement when I have done something, and yes maybe I cant do anything else for a few days but hey ho, To be honest, I just no longer wear my glasses in the house!!!
