I doubt that nausea/vomiting by themselves show lupus, i.e. without the other lupus indicators (rashes, hair loss, fatigue, joint pain etc). Nausea/vomiting on-off for few days might be due to a stomach bug or other gastro issues, he ought to check it out properly to find out the cause.

Nausea and vomiting were and still are part of my version of Lupus. Without an omeprazole first thing in the morning I cannot even keep a cup of tea down, the tummy churns, the heaving starts and then projectile you know what. This was continuous until the gp prescribed omeprazole, I found not a thing that would help, not even milk (yuk). So long as I wait at least 20 minutes after the omeprazole before I have anything (not even more water) I'm fine until the following day. Your husbands gp will not brush off the nausea and vomiting I'm sure, if for no other reason, any drugs he is on cannot be absorbed.

So, unfortunately back to the gp.

Best of luck and best wishes

Hi Anne, I am sorry your husband is having such a rough time and hope he feels better soon. Feeling nauseous (..and being sick!) affects everything all day long and can get you very down. I have periods with nausea, sometimes only for a few days sometimes for longer - though not actually being sick. In my understanding nausea is part of 'living with lupus.' As I am over-sensitive to many chemicals, I mainly self-manage my condition by using complementary medicine (homoeopathy, chiropractic, acupuncture, organic food, filtered water, etc). I suspect my nausea sometimes happen during a lupus flare causing major organs (like the liver or kidneys) to inflame. Perhaps nausea can also be a side-effect of medication and it may be helpful to check with a Pharmacist, as they usually know more about side-effects than doctors. The pharmacist meeds to know everything he has been prescribed (including how much and when). Best wishes ..for a healthier 2013! :)

I get nauseated when I am in a lot of pain. Perhaps it is his pain that is causing HIS nausea? I am given phenergan to take when it gets to the point of being unmanageable and it helps me greatly!

Hi Anne

I do hope your husband is better by now but if he is still struggling with nausea and vomiting I have a few suggestions. I take esomeprazole (big brother of omeprazole) but sometimes I also need an anti-hemetic. Ask your GP about metoclopramide or cinnarizine, the latter really helps me if I remember to take it 20 minutes before eating.

Good luck
