Hi I’ve been diagnosed with lupus SLE now for 12 years. I’m taking hydroxychloroquine now for past 5 years but started off with mexotrexate. So far it helps but I still have my pains which limit my physical ability. Is anyone here on disability because of there lupus diagnosis?

Is Lupus considered a disability
Hi Myami
Lupus is considered a disability, I am in receipt of PIP for limited capability and there are various things you would be entitled to along with this, I.e. blue badge for parking, reduced rail cost etc.
Hope this helps 😊 xx
It is a chronic illness but whether it meets the criteria for disability benefits depends on how it impacts your daily living & mobility, not the diagnosis. Many people with lupus don't meet the criteria whereas some of us unfortunately do.
If it's limiting your capacity then you should definitely take advice on what you may be entitled to. If you are struggling with work then also speak to your employer / OH about what adjustments could be made to help you. There is so much they can do.
PIP can be claimed while working (or not) and isn't means tested. ESA or UC can be claimed if you're working age but unable to work due to disability.
Also methotrexate can take time to work or get your optimal dose so things will hopefully improve for you soon. Fingers crossed!
All the best xx
Lupus itself I don't believe is a 'disability' I(i may get shot down now!!!) But the impact it causes to ur life and the problems that it causes to your body ie arthritis, chronic pain, memory issues, chronic fatigue, chronic headaches to list but a few can cause some degree of disability in varying degree to different individuals.
I am on pip and have been for a little while now and I also have a blue badge.
I have sle and APS.
I suffer mainly with chronic pain, arthritis, memory problems and horrendous chronic fatigue! I am also going thru the process at age 43yrs of ill health retirement and I am atm awaiting a decision 🤞🤞
There are many people out there with lupus that have it very mild and need no treatment or minimal treatment and manage their life extremely well and it doesn't impact on their daily living at all. Then theres us!!
But if u are asking is it considered with regards to pip then I think it is now a recognised condition but again it's all about how it affects ur daily living it's not just that u haveva diagnosis.
