Blood Test Results

Hi again everyone!

So I had a large set of blood tests done last week to get prepped before I get sent to a Rheumatologist for the first time.

I saw my GP yesterday to get the results (not all were back from the lab yet) but he explained to me that my White Blood Cells were quite low (they’ve been low before but never this bad) and my CRP levels were around 22 mg/L (also higher than they have ever been)

But my ESR levels were almost normal.

It is so confusing trying to understand all of these things and what’s normal/not! I never know how to take these results.

If anyone could share their experiences prior to their diagnosis that would be great 👏🏻

I had a lot of stuff happen 10 yrs prior to diagnosis. I was really fatigued and went for some basic tests. My white blood cells and platelets were low at this time. As time went on and I started getting night sweats, low grade fever, enlarged lymph nodes, I was then told I have “mono”. A few years later, I got pericarditis or inflammation around my heart sac. Still no one put puzzle pieces together.

About 4 yrs ago, I got pneumonia out of nowhere and things really started to snowball after this. I started exhibiting very clear signs of a CTD. I garnered a UCTD diagnosis to begin with and within a year and as my kidney function declined, I was diagnosed with systemic lupus. My ESR is always really low and my CRP is climbing but not abnormally high.

CRP is a measure of active, current inflammation. ESR is a test for chronicity of inflammation that depends on antibodies. If you’re immunodeficient, ESR may be low with a high CRP. Low white blood cells (leukopenia) is common in lupus.
