Am new on here

Hi all, I am new to this site and looking forward to getting to know you all. I am 73 and was diagnosed with SLE 13 years ago. Over the years my symptoms lessened, and I have had very few over the last 3 years. In fact I take Hydroxychloroquine only 3 times a week now! I had my Astra Zenica 1st vaccine recently, and for 5 days I was fine, no side effects at all. Unfortunately, on day 6, I became unwell with what seems to be a Lupus flare. It started with my joints, and then my muscles, and am feeling muzzy and tired etc. I don't want to alarm anyone about having the vaccine by the way, I am sure this is unusual, and it's important to safeguard us all against Covid - but has anyone else had this experience?

Hi and welcome to the forum, I’ve found lots of great advice on here. I too reacted to the vaccine but had been feeling pretty rough beforehand- it affected me the same as you and took a week before I finally felt better (tho still more to it then just the vaccine).

Hi and welcome. I find this site a continuing source of knowledge, support and friendship and I'm sure you will too. Glad to hear you've had the vaccine but sorry to hear it triggered a flare. I had my vaccine around a month ago now and didn't have any major reactions but we're all different.

Hope you're on the mend now xx

Hi. I'm also a newby and was actually trying to find out if people with Lupus were having reactions to the Covid vaccine. I had mine just over a week ago. I was fine the next day but the following day I had a flare up start. It's subsiding now but I am worried about the second vac.

Thank you for replying Twizzel. I am glad your flare is starting to subside - I know it is important to have the second jab to complete our immunity to Covid 19, but like you, I am not looking forward to it now. I am still feeling unwell after this flare up which started on day 6 after my first jab 2 weeks ago. It has completely scuppered my daily fast walking for an hour. I can just about amble around the block! Keep well (ish)!
