Secondly is spondylitis an autoimmune disease?

It will depend on the conext and usually they are probably the same but there is a group of spondyloarthopathies:
"Spondyloarthritis is an umbrella term for inflammatory diseases that can affect the back, pelvis, neck and some larger joints, as well as internal organs, like the intestines and eyes. The most common of these diseases is ankylosing spondylitis. Others include: Psoriatic arthritis."
spondylitis.org/about-spond...
arthritis.org/diseases/spon....
And yes - generally classified as autoimmune although: "Spondyloarthritis is currently allocated to the autoimmune diseases, but classifies as an autoinflammatory disease based on a strong inflammatory component and lack of a female preponderance."
Morning Sally B777 😊🌿🌸🦋I just Googled spondylitis and it didn’t come up without ankylosing.
Choose one of the renouned facilities to read about this.
I have this too. Wasn’t given any data on this condition myself and only recently read a reply that it effects other organs/tissues besides the spine. I was shocked to learn this exists. So thankful for this forum where data is shared.
Best wishes.

The only reason I know about it , as a child growing up..my father had it.
I’m sorry to hear this. It affects men more than women. I was diagnosed about 15 years ago from an X-ray study of my lower back.
I suspect my dad probably has it too. He hates doctors and won’t go for anything unless he’s in crisis.
There is a genetic/inherited factor in this and it can be related to autoimmune or inflammatory problems.
Do you think you have it too???
Hi, I`m not saying I have it...it`s more about gathering information.. and understanding autoimmune diseases...obviously as a child you inherit certain things.. looks, mannerisms etc we`re like jigsaw puzzles in affect...!!!
I have AS. The broader, more correct, term is spondyloarthritis (SpA). This term encompasses a number of related conditions. AS, specifically, refers to axial SpA and specifies a degeneration and fusion of the spine. SpA is more correctly described as an "immune mediated" disease. The symptoms are a result of an immune system pre-disposition *and* an environmental factor. So, you could have the pre-disposition for SpA but can reduce or eliminate symptoms by managing the environmental trigger. Hope that helps.
