Not sure you will have a choice - the Scottish NHS is different from England and they say where you can go.

Yep ‘fraid Pro is right. I’m in Fife but very close to Dundee - beautiful and lots going for it in qol but wouldn’t recommend from a healthcare perspective! Where you live (postcode and Health board is key to which hospital and rheum you will get. Desperate shortage of rheumies in north east Scotland but Aberdeen/ ARI would be better than Inverness I believe and is being set up become the Scottish CoE so I’ve been told.

I live in Inverness and the rheumatologist I saw was dreadful. I am interested in your comment that a CoE for Scotland is planned for Aberdeen. This would be wonderful and I would definitely ask for a referral. Is this info certain and may I ask where you heard this and whether a timescale has been mentioned?

Sorry I’m only passing on info I was by word of mouth re ARI becoming a CoE from a member of this community who is currently under the ARI rheumatology department. Perhaps you could post here yourself requesting clarification on this matter and I will definitely follow to read any replies you receive?

CoE is Centre of Excellence - in other words a specialist centre for lupus. They already have these in England but there is nothing in Scotland and I feel that one is desperately needed. You would be dealing with a doctor who is a lupus specialist rather than a general rheumatologist who may have limited (or no) experience with lupus.

I live in Inverness and attended the Rheumatology clinic at Raigmore Hospital late last year with suspected lupus. I saw Dr *****. Unfortunately I cannot recommend him. He was arrogant and dismissive and I was so put off that I have avoided doctors ever since. I believe there were two other doctors at the clinic and these might be better. So good luck in your search for a decent rheumatologist! Maybe Elgin will be a better bet. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
