Hello!! Just wondering if anyone has experienced inflamed oesophagus and stomach which affected your throat. I have it but my throat and neck feels very tight and hard to swallow. I’m also experiencing very bad head pains and face. Feel like I have an infection but nothing showing in the bloods to indicate infection. Don’t feel great. So annoying...

So sorry you are suffering. I had gastritis and Oesophagitis said to have been steroid induced. Usual easy get out. I had an endoscopy and found to have 3 stomach ulcers and Barrets oesophagus. My throat was always sore too. Was put on Omeprazole 40mg bd long term. All healed now but the Barrets oesophagus doesn’t reverse and can become cancerous. Have endoscopy annually to take biopsies. Don’t ignore it. See your doctor soonest.

Liz.

Same here. The start of my physical problems was acid reflux which I attributed to stress and went to the GP because of weight loss. I’m now on 3 omeprazole a day. I haven’t touched nsaids for years because they caused problems.

My diet is very soft and restricted. I’ve recently been diagnosed with early Sjögren’s to add to the autoimmune mix, which doesn’t help with the swallowing. My bowels have started to cause problems now. Underweight and very cheesed off. 😕

I have had GERD for awhile but recently developed esophagitis. The esophagitis was determined by endoscopy. In addition to what has been mentioned in these replies, I found that removing certain foods and drinks has helped reduce the inflamation. I also raise the head of my bed about 4” (10 cm) with blocks of wood. This reduce the reflux at night. I am eating smaller more frequent meals and nothing before bedtime.

Apart from the oesophagitis you could be describing me! I don’t have h-pylori or Ceoliac or blockages to explain. Nor do I take any anti-inflammatories at all or analgesics bar paracetamol occasionally - yet the gastro blamed his findings on polypharmacy and on Sjögren’s.

So in desperation to sort out my nausea and awful headaches - and intermittent very sore throats I posted on the Pernicious Anaemia community because atrophic gastritis or autoimmune gastritis seems the most likely bet.

Lots of interesting replies and I did the rudimentary test for high or low stomach acid someone described - drink a quarter teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda/ baking soda in a glass of water before eating anything in the morning. If you are forced to do a big belch within a few minutes this means you have high or normal stomach acid. If nothing happens at all this means your stomach acid levels are too low - in which case it points more to the atrophic gastritis and B12 deficiency.

I have had a week off daily maximum Ranitidine and not taken any PPI meds eg Lansoperazole as gastro wanted me to keep taking. I tried the bicarbonate test yesterday and no belch at all. Will try again now for clarity and after that it’s just a case of dietary changes and chewing more and drinking cider vinegar (ugh!).

Having Sjögren’s makes low stomach acid much more likely for me I’ve read but most doctors presume we take anti inflammatories and lots of drugs for pain so assume stomach acid is too high.

Not sure about the sore throat but I keep getting these too. Guessing for me they are part of the headaches and nausea and other neurological facial pain because it never becomes a cold or other - although I do have a lot of morning nasal congestion with it.

I have inflamed Oesophagus though out picked up on my pet scan I feel as if I can’t swallow or a lump in my throat. Although I’m not diagnosed with anything yet I also get pains and pressure in my face including my muscles jumping around xx. Feel better x

Yes, throat pain seems to go hand in hand with bad acid.

Something I have noticed over time is that when the acid is bad I also suffer with a lot of catarh. I have found that it can be controlled to a degree if I decongest my nose and blow it. Dont know if the acid causes the sinus congestion or visa versa.

If I am getting lots of sinus issues I raise my vitamin c intake.
