I've been getting headaches now for 2mths doctor wants me to start amitriptyline 2 a day for 3 days then take 3 a day for 2 days then 4 at night but unsure because of work I go to bed 7 30 up between 1 and 2 don't sleep well but unsure how I'll be at work any advice be appreciated

From what I understand,amittriptyline is often used to prevent migraines, expecially if the migraines are causing sleeplessness. The dose of 40mg sounds usual too. See the Migraine Trust info here migrainetrust.org/living-wi...

I have taken up to 30mg a day to help my insomnia. I found that 10mg does have some impact, as it seems to reduce some of the neuropathic pain I get from an old femur fracture (nothing to do with autoimmunity). But at higher doses, I was sleepier during the day but without helping any further with night-time sleep. So I have stuck at 10mg. The advice is usually to take the dose a couple of hours before bedtime, on the basis that it takes roughly 12 hours for the effects to wear off enough for you to function normally. x
