Aloe vera

I have recently been diagnosed with SLE and take hydroxychloroquine, someone recommended I should try Aloe Vera Gel to drink.... interested to hear if anyone has tried this with any success? Also keen to hear of other more natural remedies to help with the aches and pains x

I am not taking it at the moment but I have in the past. There were quite a few aloe veras that didn't work but I found one I trusted that did work.

The one I found that did work for me used to come in a yellow bottle and was called Forever Aloe Vera Gel.

When I used to get it you would have to find a supplier as it was sold by suppliers that would then encourage you to become suppliers. But it was something that did work as opposed to many that didn't.

Its now several years since I used it regularly as dietary changes (I believe) has cut my level of inflammation overall.

There is a chain of health food stores whose Aloe Vera never worked.

The Forever variety used to be quite a thick gel.

I am not on hydroxychloroquine right now. Cant be sure whether I was at the time.

The AV gave a huge energy boost. The only reason I stopped taking it was that I have cycled through all sorts of alternative remedies and sometimes one gets dropped to test the effects of another.

But I remember always finding it useful. You will have to search to see if it is still available.

This is what I used to get. But years back so don't know what it is like these days. Whether it is the same formulation?

Hi Jmcb123 ,

I'd recommend discussing it with your doctor before trying it. It could potentially interact with some medications that you may be taking and so it is best to get a medical opinion. When reading about experiences of other people using natural remedies it is very important to remember that lupus presents very different between individuals and therefore what works for one person could be potentially harmful for someone else. Just because something claims to be 'natural' doesn't mean it can't cause adverse reactions in certain conditions or interact negatively with medications.

If your joints are aching try rubbing in Olbas Oil, or Deep Freeze - Deep Freeze also do a pain plaster and I cut that in half and place it where it hurts most at night to aid sleep. Only has menthol and eucalyptus etc so can’t clash with Hydroxychloroquine which I take. Cannabis oil from Holland and Barrett really helps me too - good luck.
