Hi everyone, kind of concerned about Lupus. Have a lot of body aches, off and on. Feels like I have the flu, then it goes away. Wondering what your symptoms were to start with. Thanks so much....Ruby 🌸🌸
Symptoms Please 🌸: Hi everyone, kind of concerned... - LUPUS UK
Symptoms Please 🌸
Unfortunately rubyred, this is a very broad question with a very broad answer. If you look over the past similar questions you can see that many of us were diagnosed late or misdiagnosed due to such random symptoms that span many years. I believe on the site there are some good leaflets that will give you a list of main symptoms and then other things we get.
I was misdiagnosed with RA 17 years ago after having swelling of small joints, weakness and shaking. This was accompanied by the flu. Since then the rash that came and went on my face for years, got worse. Migraines I had had for years got worse. (see the pattern). Eventually, my brain , heart, joints, thyroid, digestive system have been affected. I have Sjorgrens which is associated auto condition. All the small symptom I had ignored for years, just got worse. I saw a patient of mine with lupus and realised, what I thought it was and asked for a blood test. (they are not always conclusive). Lupus can grumble away, my rheumy believes I have had it since I was in my 20s. I have had flares and not known in the past. This is just my history.
Flu like symptoms can be many things, so please read the onsite leaflets. Write down your symptoms and if there is family history of auto immune. Then go to the GP. Keep us posted.
johare has given a good answer, rubyred777. Its almost impossible to give an answer to how lupus first presents itself as the possible range of symptoms is so wide. For me, it was the onset of shortness of breath, followed by sore and swollen hands. It's only the accumulation of several symptoms over time, together with specialist tests that can provide a diagnosis. Hope you find a solution soon x
Hi rubyred777 ,
As other members of the community have said, it is very difficult to say what symptoms people 'start off' with because lupus presents differently in everyone. You can read more about some of the common symptoms of lupus on our website at lupusuk.org.uk/the-symptoms/
Is there a reason that you suspect lupus to be the cause of your symptoms? Are you having any tests done by your GP?
If you need more information about lupus and how it is diagnosed, you can request or download one of our free packs at lupusuk.org.uk/request-info...
I get severe pains in my body when I'm having a flare. I take hot bubble bath and it relieves all my stiffness and soreness. Hope you feel better soon.
