says about half of SLE patients are anaemic.
It makes sense really because if there is inflammation in the gut and we can't absorb nutrients as well as we should, there is the chance of becoming anaemic as well as other problems. I have been on and off all my life until I changed to a more healthy diet to allow for the lack of absorption. I should be A1 fit on the diet I eat, but due to the problems not so.
Why is anemia a symptom of lupus?
Anaemia is a result of many conditions, not just Lupus and has to present with positive bloods and a list of other criteria. If seen in Lupus it could be part of gut mal absorption, a lack of other vitamins or nutrients which aid the absorption of iron, or haemolytic anaemia which is a problem with red blood cells. Anaemia can be problem in itself and nothing to do with any other condition.
